Meet the AMP Mentors 2016-12-12T08:43:48+00:00

Meet Antleader Mentorship Program Commission

Commissioner

Name: Cody Chau

Email: amp@asuci.uci.edu

Major: English, History, and Education Sciences

Goal for the year: AMP is more than just serving incoming 1st year students and their transition into college, it’s about empowering those within or outside of AMP to make a positive difference in their community. I am not so much the voice of change than the mentors and mentees in AMP. My goal is to help empower them, and other students as well, to lead positive lives and to make a positive change in their community.

Fun Fact:

It was Friday evening around 1am at a Norms Restaurant. It was a long day and we had just finished stand-up paddleboarding, thrift shopping, and going to the arcade. I left to go use the restroom for a couple of minutes and came back to my friends with suspicious grins on their faces.
“You’re not down”, they said.
Me: “Down for what?”
Them: “Down to go to San Francisco!”
This was too spontaneous and I wasn’t really down, especially since we all needed to be at the UCI involvement fair the following Sunday. Just when I was about to say no and call it a day, one of my friends told me: “This would be one of those fun and spontaneous stories/fun fact that you will be telling others in the future, possibly even your future kids!” And he was right.

Tl;dr: I once took a spontaneous trip to San Francisco with two other friends.

Commissioner

Name: Jorge Maldonado

Email: amp@asuci.uci.edu

Major: Social Ecology

Goal for the year: My goal for the year is to take what I’ve learned from AMP and Academic Affairs and share and combine that with what the new class of interns brings. It’s crazy that when I first joined these organizations, I looked up to and believed in the fact that the upperclassmen knew what they were doing and had all of the answers. Now that it’s my turn to fill those shoes, I know it’s a scary world out there, but with the right amount of persistence and willingness to learn from our mistakes, I promise that by the end of the year we will have created something incredible.

Fun Fact:

I’m trilingual! Spanish was my first language believe it or not, and ever since middle school I’ve been studying Japanese, although it’s gotten pretty rusty since I’ve come to college. If I had a superpower it would probably be the ability to be able to communicate with everyone fluently.

Assistant Commissioner

Name: Kyle Dimla

Email: amp@asuci.uci.edu

Year: 3rd

Major: Biological Sciences

Goal for the year: My goal for the year is to empower others through the role I play in the Antleader Mentorship Program and challenge other students to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. It was not until the end of my second year that I realized I needed to try all these new things in order to learn more and grow more, which is why I want to challenge others to do the same and watch them grow into bigger and better versions of themselves.

Fun Fact:

I lost all my hair! Although it sounds sad, being diagnosed with a common autoimmune disorder called Alopecia Areata has made me more confident in myself as a unique individual and taught me to be comfortable challenging societal norms.

Assistant Commissioner

Name: Diana Hoang

Email: amp@asuci.uci.edu

Major: Public Health Policy

Goal for the year: My goal for the end of the year is to create a family within AMP, the Office of Academic Affairs, and hopefully even in ASUCI. The things that AMP and the Office have taught me, the lessons I have learned in my entire year of interning have made me a lot more well rounded and I only hope to be able to bring these to our amazing team of interns and commissioners. I’m so grateful to be in the position that I am and I am looking forward to the best year for this office

Fun Fact:

I’ve lived in three states over the course of my life. The majority of it was in California. However, I lived for a year in Texas as well as a year in North Carolina. Really random states, really random moves, but both were experiences that helped me grow as an individual.

Alex Fan

Year: 4th

Major: Biological Sciences

Involvements: Delta Epsilon Mu, Medical Scribe at Joshua Medical Group, South County Eye Care, AMP Mentor

Blurb: Hey dere Future Mentee! Glad you decided to choose to come to UCI and apply for AMP! Starting off your college career the the best way you possibily can already! That being said, my name is Alex Fan. Some call me Ajex, others call me FanFan, whatever works for you. I am a 4th year bio major, I’m old I know, but that means I’ve lived and experienced the best of college already so I gotchu. If anything, people might mistaken me to be the same year as you or even younger. Sad, I know, but it is true. Oh wells, gotta keep the youth as long as I can, right? A few things about me, I love being outdoors, playing sports, and exploring, especially for cool food places. I love playing volleyball so whenever you wanna learn to play or pepper, hit me up and I’ll be at open gym. I also run a lot so if you need a running buddy, I gotchu too, but it has to be a route, I can’t do that running in place thing, I get bored too easily. I also like listening to music and learning/attempting to cook and bake. I watch a lot of shows too so if you have any good ones, tell me and we can binge watch together! Other than that, I’m pretty chill, I’d like to think. I like listening to people’s stories so whenever you just want to rant or just talk, Ill be there to lend an ear. Other than that, I just wanted to say congratulations on making it this far and choosing the best college to attend and even stepping it up and appying to be an AMP mentee. You’ll have no regrats. 😛

Ashley Truong

Ashley Truong

Year: 2nd

Major: Biological Studies, International Studies

Involvements: AMP (Former Mentee/Current Mentor), ASUCI Academic Affairs, UCI Clinic Project (Anh Lanh Clinic Vietnamese Interpreter), Emergency Care Center Volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital

Blurb: hey. Hi. HELLO. My name is Ashley Truong. I’m from Garden Grove, California which is less than 10 minutes away from Disneyland! Exactly one year ago, I was a lost freshman overwhelmed by all that UCI has to offer. AND TO BE HONEST, I’m still lost… but that’s perfectly fine because you, too, will experience and learn firsthand, what it truly means when they say that college is a journey, not a destination. AMP has been one of the best decisions I’ve made by far, and I strongly urge you to apply even if you’re only remotely interested! What you should know about me: I’m passionate about global issues that pertain to health and social inequities, which explains my majors. I’m very school and career oriented. However, as you’ll soon discover, I’m also a HUUUGE sucker for fun, thrill, and spontaneity. SoOOoo we can study non-stop for hours or… WE CAN GO JUMP OFF A PLANE OR A BRIDGE (both of which I’ve done btw). Either works, it’s chill HAHAHA. My favorite things/past times include hiking, traveling, being around nature, Netflix and KDramas, late night food runs, spontaneous adventures, deep talks about anything and everything, and spending money I don’t have. I promise you my honesty and open mind, and I ask for and would deeply appreciate yours in return throughout our time together. Going back to the first point I made about being lost, I’m also directionally challenged SO BECOME MY MENTEE AND LET’S GET LOST & FIND OUR WAY THROUGH COLLEGE LIFE TOGETHER.

Bryan Lam

Bryan Lam

Year: 4th

Major: Political Science, Business Economics

Involvements: UCI:
Student Parent Orientation Program (Evergreen Year 2015, Lotus Year 2016)
Mesa Court Center Attendant 2015-2016
Sigma Phi Epsilon 2013-2015
Tomo No Kai 2014 (Fall Quarter)

Off-campus:
Arroyo HS Speech and Debate Assistant Coach 2015

Blurb: What’s good potential mentee! I’m Bryan Lam. I’m a 4th year Political Science and Business Economics double major and I’m looking into pursuing Human Resources/Market after attending Business School (hopefully). I’m from the 626 area/San Gabriel Valley aka home of the absolute best Asian food in SoCal so if you’re into good vibes and good food, you might need me hahah. Although this is a mentorship program, I want to emphasize that we are both being a part of this grand experience and I’m excited to see how you shape your college experience, how I can provide myself as a resource to introduce you to the great things UCI has to offer, and how we will both grow together. I’ll be like the big bro you never had (minus the arguments and living together bc how weird would that be). I’m BIG on food and movies (Star Wars minus the prequels, The Wolf of Wall Street, American Hustle, any Christopher Nolan film tbh, and anything with my girl Margot Robbie), and the simpler things. I’m really interested in hiking (even tho I don’t go that much), going to the beach (even tho I get hella sunburnt), and I’m really into art (even tho I don’t go to many museums or whatever). Overall, I’m a curious soul, pretty down for spontaneous adventures, always down for chill vibes.

Celyne Demonteverde

Celyne Demonteverde

Year: 2nd

Major: Biological Sciences -> Public Health Policy

Involvements: Kababayan at UCI, Pillipino Pre-Health Undergraduate Student Organization(PUSO), Antleader Mentorship Program(AMP), Administrative Intern Program, Alpha Kappa Psi, Dream Foundation

Blurb: Hi, hello, kamusta ka ba? My name is Celyne Demonteverde and I am a returning mentee turned mentor for this year’s amazing AMP class 🙂 Congrats on being accepted into UCI you lucky anteater you! I can’t wait to meet you, get to know you and introduce you to your fire af grand(my wonderfully sassy, smart and uber supportive mentor Araiye Medlock❤️) I hope to be as great as a mentor to you as she was to me hehe. Welcome to the Sass Line🔥

Anyways, here is a little blurby on my background, I am full Filipino but was born in the United States and grew up in Santa Barbara, CA. I am super family oriented and love to spend time with my family and friends. My closest friends describe me as being a dork, an overachiever and a troll. Although those aren’t the most flattering adjectives, they describe me pretty well. I love to watch every and any TV show and or movie. Some of my favorite TV shows include HIMYM, Sherlock, Beat Bobby Flay, Criminal Minds and Iron Man. As for movies, I watch all genres so its pretty difficult to pinpoint just one favorite, but my favorite superhero is Iron Man so I like Marvel. I love to be busy and super involved(as apparent by my wide variety of extracurriculars lol), hence the overachiever part. I also love to travel – whether it be abroad to the Philippines or in California to San Francisco. As such, be prepared to go out and explore! Going on spontaneous adventures is one of my favorite things to do, so going on one with my future mentee sounds even better 🙂 I also like to go on trips in a different respect, food-tripping! I love to try new foods, desserts and drinks(especially boba 😛 ) In regards to school, I am currently a Second Year BioSci major soon to be Public Health Policy Major. Even though switching majors sounds crazy and scary, its a normal thing to do! Your first year in college is an entirely new environment for you to explore and grow in, and I can’t wait to be that little push and source of advice and support that you need during this journey! I look forward to all our random hangouts and adorably dorky talks ranging from puppies to what is your favorite type of potatoe(I love french fries). Again, congrats on getting into UCI, you definitely made the right decision and are already making great choices by applying to be in AMP!

Christine Nguyen

Christine Nguyen

Year: 4th

Major: Pharmaceutical Sciences

Involvements: President of PharmSci Student Council, UCI Medical Center Pharmacy Volunteer, Global Medical Training, Private Tutor, Kappa Alpha Theta

Blurb: Hiii future mentee! My name is Christine (aka pharmsci yay lol) and I’m a 4th year PharmSci major! My main focus in life is to be able to help others in anyway possible and to make them smile. Currently, I aspire to become a pharmacist once I graduate from UCI, so if you ever have any questions about course curriculum or how to get involved on campus, I’m here to help. I love to travel, especially if I’m able to help others as well. I’ve traveled to the Dominican Republic over spring break for a week to run a moving clinic throughout the course of 5 days. I would have to say it was a life-changing experience that I highly encourage getting involved in. After I graduate, I want to travel to Japan, Singapore, and Europe some day, so if you ever want to travel, maybe we can go together!

A little more about myself: I’m from the 714/OC area, which means I’m a local here. I love going on food adventures and driving with the windows down while playing loud music. Sushi and sea cream jasmine teas are my favorite. I’m DTF (down to feast) lol so if you ever want a pick me up, let’s go eat! In my free time, I watch shows varying from the Bachelor/Bachelorette, House M.D., Criminal Minds, Bones, Jane the Virgin, Scandal, and korean dramas. I also enjoy making DIY projects and baking (I can make bomb cookies, muffins, and macarons). I listen to all types of music but I’m definitely one to listen to Odesza, Flume, and other chill EDM and alternative music. However, my close friends would like to argue that if I play ratchet music in my car, it means we’re on a comfortable level.

I hope you were able to get to know more about me and I would love to get the chance to learn more about you! Honestly, I’m a chill person looking for a mentee that I can hangout with as a friend while being able to mentor them. So if you want a friend/”big sis” type of mentor, I’m your girl.

Diana Hoang

Diana Hoang

Year: 3rd

Major: Public Health Policy (Possibly double in Education)

Involvements: AMP Assistant Commissioner, Admin Intern, Youth Group Leader/Teacher, Member of Kaba and PHA.

Blurb: What’s cracking, future mentees?
I am Diana Hoang, a third year Public Health Policy major, attempting to double with Education. I originate from Long Beach and I have lived in SoCal my entire life. I am currently the AMP Assistant Commissioner and I am very excited to meet all of you. I am a very loud and outgoing individual and I enjoy the simple things in life, like hanging with friends and getting good food. I want to do a lot of things with my time here and I would love to share my knowledge of UCI with you, future mentee. I am very simple as a person to get to know, but from a blurb, I won’t be able to get across what I want to. SO let’s get to know each other and welcome to UCI. 🙂

Dominique Duong

Dominique Duong

Year: 2nd

Major: Business Economics → Biological Sciences

Involvements: Previous AMP Mentee, Cross Cultural Center – Personal Development Intern, ASUCI Office of Student Services Films Intern

Blurb: Hi friends!! My name is Dominique Duong, but call me Dom! (Drake says) If you’re reading this it’s (NOT) too late (!!) because you will not make a mistake by applying and being a part of AMP. AMP has been such a blessing in my life as a first year and everyone deserves to be a part of a family as open, understanding, and amazing as this one. I want to be that person to welcome you into this family and help you find your home at UCI. But a little about me is that I was born and raised in San Jose (yay Norcal). I’m a Youtube fanatic. I can literally spend hours just watching videos, whether it’s Buzzfeed, Jenn Im’s fashion channel, AndymetSonia’s life channel or the KoreanEnglishman’s travel channel..the list goes on for quite a while. I used to swim for 10 years before I came to UCI and even though I don’t swim as much anymore, I’m down to swim with you future mentee!! I also really enjoy hiking, but we can also be couch potatoes together and just watch tv or movies all day LOL. I enjoy both American TV or a really good Kdrama. Some of my favorites are Grey’s Anatomy, Game of Thrones, Master Chef, The Mindy Project and my ALL TIME Kdrama favorite is My Love From Another Star!! I love Instagram because I get to explore the different types of photography, food, fashion, and lifestyles from around the world (FOR FREE lol). I also enjoy shopping and travelling but because the broke life is real, vicarious experiences will do for now! Coming in as 1st year I had no clue about what I wanted to do and even though it may seem odd that I’m transferring from Business Econ to Biological Sciences, I realized that I want to pursue the field of dentistry and help people have gr8 smiles c: College is a really big transition and if you ever find yourself lost, it’s completely ok!! I will be here for you and help guide you through it because I believe in you! But in short, I can’t wait to go on this crazy adventure of life with you, whether it’s a spontaneous late night food trip, a study session, or anything that you’d want/need. Talk to me/ hit me up/ let me love you c: I can’t wait to meet you, mentee! Let’s make this year a memorable one!

Blurb: Hullo hullo Mentees, my name is Erin and I’m a 2nd year Business Economics major. Welcome to AMP! If there’s one thing to know about me, my favorite animal is a panda… all it does it eat, sleep, and cuddle tree branches, just like meeee! Haha but no really, as your mentor, I’m always down to honestly do ANYTHING. Let’s go get boba (Thai tea pls), travel to LA for photoshoots, hike through a forest, eat acai bowls on the beach, and go on random midnight drives! I love anything adventurous and I hope you do too 🙂 I’m a huge (and I mean awkward animal huge) Wong Fu Productions fan, I’m obsessed with BubzVlogz and her little baby Isaac (aka baby michelin man), and I swear I have a slight obsession with Korean dramas ahaaa… But in all seriousness, I can’t wait for all the memories we’ll make together these next few quarters 🙂

Jeffrey Cruz

Jeffrey Cruz

Year: 2nd

Major: Public Health Policy

Involvements: Former AMP Mentee (15-16), Tomo No Kai Member, Circle K Member, Public Health Association Member, AMP Mentor (16-17)

Blurb: Hullo, what’s good potential mentee?

Soooo, as you can tell my name is Jeff. (https://goo.gl/Zq53zE) I’m a second year here at UCI and the first thing I want to tell you is, AMP is amazing and you are not making a mistake applying for this program. Personally AMP was the one thing that made me fall in love with this school and the people here! So I really encourage you to apply and maybe pick me as your mentor. 󾍇

A little about myself, I’m a Public Health Policy major hoping to minor in Asian American Studies and hopefully double major in Education also! I tend to talk too much so I thought that would have been a good route. I was previously a Bio major–> Public Health Science major, so I can help guide you through that inevitable first year crisis of deciding who you are and what you should study. (been there, done that) That part of your year (if you do experience it, if you don’t props to you!!) will be tough so even if you’re not my mentee I will do my best to help you out!

I used to play tennis in high school (varsity kids wya??!?!) so I’m down to rally anytime!! Tennis was my life in highschool, to the point where I bought my own stringing machhine, so I can string your racket after we pop our strings going ham on the courts. LMAO But right now I’m into weightlifting and getting my numbers up. I’m hella weak so you can be my spotter!! Or I can spot you! #swolemates

I also love clothes even if it doesn’t look like it. LOL I admit, I bum it almost everyday at school #comfy. So because of that I love shopping and thrifting, so we can totally go to Fashion Island in Newport or hit up the thriftstores in the OC!! (forreal I am down)

And of course I love food. Highkey all my money goes to food and clothes. In exchange for swipes, I’ll drive us to KBBQ or whatever your heart desires! I’m always down to try some weird stuff. But lowkey idk if I can keep that promise when it’s time. LMAO But I’ll try!!

If I can keep my hands off my phone I’m usually watching youtube videos or a movie or show. My tastes include a bunch of stuff from superhero stuff (THE FLASH IS THE BEST), to crime shows (How To Get Away With Murder is my fav atm), to K-drama’s and Anime!! I’m down to start any show with you mentee!! LOL

As you can see I’m kinda down for anything because of my FOMO (Fear of missing out). Haha you’ll understand that feeling soon enough! It’s what keeps me doing stuff and putting myself out there. I am down for stuff but, unlike my fellow mentors, I’m not really down for the late night adventures! :((( I just really need my sleep. My first year, I got 10 hours of sleep a night on average. (IKR)

But real talk, I don’t want to reveal too much! I’ll just wait til we meet each other! As a first year I know it’s tough and I’ll do my best to carry you til the end! My first challenge to you potential mentee, is to seize any opportunity like this one right here! There’s a chance you might not get into this program but the same can be said about everything here at UCI. But it doesn’t hurt to try, because what you can potentially get out of this program will be worth it!!

Keshav Suresh

Keshav Suresh

Year: 2nd

Major: Biological Sciences

Involvements: I am a student researcher at a neuroscience lab on campus and also a writer for a medical writing website. I am a brother in the Greek fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon and ofcourse there’s AMP!

Blurb: I’m like hey what’s up hello. My name’s Keshav and I am proud to be an AMP mentor! Just a lil about myself I am a bio major and I love anything biology or science related and I will nerd out so hard about it. I really look forward to meeting you, my future mentee, and cannot wait to build a close relationship with you. I am the type of person that puts his 100% into everything and you are not going to be an exception. I will be there for you whenever you need me and I don’t even know you but I am already excited for all the adventures we will have and to watch you grow. I personally grew so much in my first year and I want to be there for you and help you grow into the best version of yourself that you want to be.
Some other stuff, I love pho, Mexican food, Indian food, the beach, exploring rooftops, going out at night, GAME OF THRONES, and scrubs(the TV show). I’m mostly into EDM and I love going to concerts and stuff so if you’re down we boutta get wild at events. But despite everything school is my priority so if you ever need someone to study with late at night let me know because I’ll probably be up studying too LOL.

I look forward to meeting you, future mentee! Explore what UCI has to offer and what better way than to be my mentee?!

Blurb: Before I introduce myself, fair warning: I hope your shoelaces are tied pretty tight.. because I wouldn’t want you falling for this mentor! Haha pretty smooth right or borderline cheesy? Well whatever the response may be, my name is Mareeya (Aha that’s actually how you spell it! I promise it’s not the phonetic spelling) I hope you’re in for the ride future mentee because I am so thrilled to get to know you. But before then I hope you get to learn a little bit about me through this blurb. FUN FACT: I like to do EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING lol sometimes not really but most of the time most likely haha. (Don’t believe me, just check my interests ^^) Maybe because I want to try everything possible and learn about new things or pick up skills I never had. But that’s just me so don’t be afraid to share with me all your interests because I would love to share with you mine and gain new ones as well! “This life is the only life we’ll ever know. Why not make it everything you want it to be?” Dangggg that went from 0 to 100 real quick but if you haven’t already picked it up I’m a highkey simp just like Drake. If you can tell where I quoted that from, props 😉 I love being philosophical so when in need of a deep talk I’m only one call/text away. You can also hit me up for food runs as well~ For some odd reason, BCD has become my second home but I’ll probably move out soon and refresh my taste buds. I love trying new things!! Good trait: I won’t yuck your yums 🙂 I also love exploring, going on random adventures, & doing spontaneous things. As much as I like to take my academics seriously, I also like to have fun. I will try my utter best to be as much help to you as possible future mentee! I had my most memorable first year experience and learned so much in the process, now it’s time for you to gain yours and I hope I can make that happen! Can’t wait to meet ya! Until next time..

Blurb: Hey WASSUP,
My name is Megan and I’m a second year Public Health Major at this glorious school. I really don’t know how to sum up who I am in this short paragraph but I guess I can try! Things that make up who I am are animals, the beach, coffee, music (mostly rap), dancing, family, friends, laughing, food, etc. I love getting to know people and trying new things. If you’re looking for someone who isn’t judgmental, really good in stressful situations, easy going, loving, and nice I’M HERE FOR YOU. Plan on a lot of dance parties, car karaoke sessions, concerts, study sessions, coffee dates, and just a great experience. Freshman year was a crazy experience and one you need a lot of support in, I’m ready to be that for you. (ps I’m better in person)

Michael Ilagan (MJ)

Michael Ilagan (MJ)

Year: 2nd

Major: Biological Sciences

Involvements: Former AMP Mentee, AMP Mentor, Confirmation Adult Leader

Blurb: Hulloo0o there, my name is Michael but you can call me MJ and I am SO SO SO excited to be your AMP mentor! I am currently a biological sciences major with an intent to pursue a career in the medical field (DOCTOR MJ DREAM JOB WASSUP). But let me tell you that this program is definitely something else. As a former mentee I was able to establish amazing and memorable relationships with mentors and mentees alike and learn all about what both AMP and UCI has to offer. So even if you’re on the fence about applying, apply anyway because you won’t regret it!

THAT ASIDE, a little about me. I was born and raised in Chino Hills and moved to the 626 where I currently reside. When I’m not studying for class and am in need of a break, I really enjoy just spending time with friends and family, whether it be by going out to eat on foodventures or deep talks until 4 AM. SPEAKING OF WHICH I personally believe food is such a huge part of life in that it’s more than just a biological need to fulfill. Spending the time to enjoy a meal with those that you love is essential! That being said I’m down for anything ranging from homecooked Filipino food to ten plates of brisket at Korean barbecue (ノ´ ▽ ` )ノ I’m also a HUGE fan of things like Pokemon (AYY SUN AND MOON THOUGH) and all things Nintendo, the Marvel movies, DISNEY (RIP my annual pass), Netflix shows not limited to Sherlock, AHS and HTGAWM, and so much more. Being at UCI also trapped me into K-dramas so I’m always open and looking for new suggestions, and am always down to rewatch Descendants of the Sun (or anything of that sort hehe). I’m also a sucker for finding nice backgrounds to take pictures with so you’ll find me stopping at every corner to get a nice picture ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) But of course, when it comes down to serious business I will study until the wee hours of the night so I hope you’re looking forward to many study parties (with snacks included)!

Looking ahead, I want YOU, my future amazing, fantastic, capable mentee, to know that life is full of opportunities and adventures to experience. There will be several moments of highs and as well as hindrances that will allow you to grow and become the best individual you can be–so take college life by storm! Find the best version of yourself. And what better way than to join this org and become my mentee?! APPLY APPLY AMPLY!

Involvements: AMP Mentee, FUSION 2015-2016 General Member, UCI Dragonboat, IM Soccer

Blurb: Yooooooo what’s happening future mentee(s)! My name is Michael Pagdonsolan (I’ll teach you how to say it later), and I am a second year MechE major. I’ve got a rather odd story of coming to California, as I was born in England, raised in Texas , and came to California about 5 years ago. Pretty much simple and straight: I’m a sport loving (especially soccer), active, full-blooded Filipino (I am soooo whitewashed haha) who is a down to earth dude. I am typically quiet on the outside when you see me as a passerby, but when you really meet me, I have a ton of bottled up energy, and love to talk! When I have free time, I like to watch Netflix, movies (and talking about whether they suck or not), Youtube, go on food runs (when I have money lol), learn about the newest science and tech advancements, have adventures, hit up the gym, go on runs (pls run with meeee), and chilling at the beach at 2 am and just talk about anything, or just making memories with anyone. When I have free time basically I will do anything that sounds ‘epic’ or ‘awesome’, so if you’re down, I’m down. My music tastes run along the lines of alternative, rock, *some* pop, a tad bit of classical, and have recently been exploring rap and edm. Not gonna lie, college is pretty awesome, and have been loving every minute of it! My short time here at UCI has let me learn so much in terms of getting the hang of things here in college, so anything that may have trouble with, I can definitely help and give you advice. Whoever you are as a mentee, I am here to care for you and your journey as a first year (which is why I chose to apply to this program, and omg was it so worth). Whatever it is that you need help with, I got your back. U mah ride or die (no but srsly, I will care for you like a child lol). All in all, I am incredibly excited to meet you! 😀

Past Involvements: Armenian Students’ Association, English Facilitator for English Conversion Program

Blurb: Hi future mentee! Welcome to UC Irvine and to this wonderful program! I look forward to meeting you. Let me tell you a little bit about me! My name is Natalie and I am born and raised in the beautiful city of Irvine, California. I am a Pre-dental Public Health Sciences major. So, when I am not studying, I spend my time relaxing with friends by going to the beach or catching up on my favorite shows (Sherlock, House of Cards, Friends). I also really enjoy going on food adventures and trying out the never-ending list of delicious food places in Irvine. However, when I’m not in Irvine, I enjoy traveling. My family is dispersed all around the world, so traveling allows me to connect with my loved ones and experience different cultures and locations. Due to traveling, I have grown very fond of photography, as well as appreciating a good book (especially on 13 hour plane rides). I love mystery books, my favorite ones are written by Agatha Christie. In addition, I am a dancer. I have danced throughout my life and was on my high school’s performing ensemble. I continue to dance in my free time, so if you are down to take a class then I would love to go with you! I hope this gives you a glimpse into my interests, I look forward to learning about you and showing you all that UC Irvine has to offer. ZOT ZOT!

Year: 3rd

Major: Biological Sciences

Involvements: President of Anteater Ambassadors Network. Neurobiology Bio 199 Researcher. AMP Mentor. Summer Tennis Coach.

Blurb: Hi everyone! My name is Navid Ghaffari and I am a third year biological sciences major. My aspiration after graduating from UCI is to attend medical school, and ultimately working hard in my classes will be my gateway to accomplishing that goal. Although, there is more to college than just school. It is a time for you to discover your passions and follow them. For me, that meant getting involved with neurobiological research, becoming President of the Anteater Ambassadors Network, and joining AMP. These involvements, as well as other commitments, makes for a busy schedule! I believe a key to success is time management, which can definitely be difficult at times. However, it allows you to focus on academics as well as enjoy your free time, which is much needed to balance out the rigor of school. I relax by spending time with friends and family and playing a variety of sports, whether it be pick-up basketball or soccer, tennis, or just running. If you are a fan of hiking, especially long strenuous ones (i.e. Angels Landing. Look it up) we will get along instantly! I am also an avid music listener (yes, that includes some country, but no metal). Speaking of music, I have been playing piano since I was five! Anyways, I hope this little blurb got to let you know a little bit about myself. I’m looking forward to getting to know you all and make your AMP experience a memorable one!

Blurb: How’s it going?! My name is Paul Do, but you can just call me Paul. I enjoy a great many things, but to name a few would be: travel, photography, fitness, basketball (big NBA fan), music, finding motivation in random events, the list goes on. I am a Biological Sciences major going into my last year and I plan on continuing my education in some form after graduating (the specifics to yet be determined). I hope to help you strive towards the balance in college that will help provide a valuable and enjoyable experience. My personal philosophy involves working to becoming the best version of myself everyday and I want to help you grow towards your best self. You can swipe me in and we can call it even (haha, kidding…but I mean if you want to..). You can never tell what’s too much or too little for these things, but I think that’s enough for a blurb.

Blurb: Ayooo, hello future mentees. I am a bay area straight from the San Jo! Let’s gooo! I am a 4th year biological sciences major and an aspiring pharmacist. I’m down af to do a lot of things! Y’all want to hang, talk, and/or eat? Always down. Let’s get close and be there for each other, ya feel? On my free time I like to chill, eat, hike, adventure, travel, and play sports! Are you not from the area? I’ll definitely show you around and we’ll go exploring together! I do not necessarily have a favorite anything, but for you I’ll make an exception! My hobbies are hiking, exploring, and photography so let’s go shooting!

On the real though, congratulations on getting into UCI! As a mentor, I hope to get to know you, help you succeed, and allow you to excel to the best of your ability! No matter the impediment, I will be there for you. If you ever need anything even at ungodly hours, I got you whether it may be ears to listen or just someone to be there for you to study. I understand what it is to be a freshman and I want to help you transition as smoothly as possible. AMP is my home away from home and my everything. I hope that it could be the same for you and hope that you can find your place in this family.

Tessa Pew

Tessa Pew

Year: 4th

Major: Informatics
Minor: Managements

Involvements: Campus Representatives, Ultimate Frisbee (club sport), AMP Mentor, working at an education non-profit organization called Project Tomorrow

Blurb: Hi there! My name is Tessa Pew (like pew pew pew) and I am a 4th year! My major is Informatics, and if you don’t know what that is das cool – it is basically the human side of computer science! I am also minoring in Management. I am from Simi Valley, California, which is a suburb north of Los Angeles next to the San Fernando valley. Overall, I am very quirky and extroverted! I love to do new things and go on adventures, but I also really just appreciate spending quality time with people and having fun. I am pretty easy to get along with and super open minded! 🙂

I want to emphasize how important it is to explore yourself and find both what you are passionate about and what makes you, you. When I first came to college, I was afraid of putting myself out there, getting involved, and trying to meet new people. I was uncertain how to balance everything, and I stayed in my comfort zone longer than I should have. I was happy to stay close to my hallmates and not branch out. At a certain point, I decided that I needed to try to put myself out there more in order to enrich my college experience (and my life as a whole). I made myself comfortable with being uncomfortable. This turned out to be one of the best things I have ever done – I met so many more people, I learned so much about others (and myself), and life became so much better and richer. Because of this, I believe that transitioning into college successfully requires exploring your interests, avoiding saying no, and being okay with making mistakes. Do all that you can and pursue the things you care about. Accept mistakes and failures as learning opportunities and use them to become a little bit better every day. Embrace all of your interactions, as they might lead to some of your most lasting friendships.

Another thing that is important to remember is balance! It is really easy (and really fun) to get caught up in all of the opportunities to be social and participate in everything – the FOMO is strong freshman year 😛 Despite this, keep in mind the significance of balance and working to still do your best academically and still sleep! Self care is needed! I am a bit of a hypocrite in that I rarely get the sleep I need, but naps are your friend 🙂

I can’t wait to meet you and get to know you, potential future mentee! I am excited for lots of adventures and good talks and helping you have an awesome first year experience 🙂

Winnie Lee

Year: 2nd

Major: Public Health Sciences

Involvements: Former AMP Mentee, Soul Train, Administrative Intern Program – CARE Research Intern, Public Health Association

Blurb: HELLO FUTURE MENTEE!! My name is Winnie and I’m a second year Public Health Sciences major born and raised in San Jose (bay area wOOo). First off, welcome to UCI and this wonderful program! Some things about me are that I am a dogless dog-lover and someday I will change that, but for now I am content with living vicariously through my dog-owning friends. Though it is really cliché, I hope to one day be able to travel the world and help those in need or maybe even work in a non-profit of some sorts as far-fetched as that sounds. I love being around people, playing tennis, traveling, and learning about different cultures hoping to one day explore our beautiful Mother Earth. I love all kinds of foods but my favorite types are SPICY. I can literally finish an entire bag of Hot Cheetos within the hour (would consider it my talent if I could). I basically listen to any kind of music tbh so shoot me some song recommendations! I am a YouTube and movie fanatic and I also enjoy watching BuzzFeed, k-dramas (esp D.O.T.S.), and etc. In all seriousness, I’m pretty much down for anything and everything so don’t be afraid to hit me up for whatever, whether its #realtalk, food runs, work outs, shopping, movie nights, studying, or anything you want it to be, because this year is about you \(・∀・\) AMP gave me a place where I could call home at UCI, exceeding all my expectations and filling my first year of college with enough love, wisdom, and laughter to last a lifetime. My hope is that you will find a place to call home yourself here on campus, wherever it may be, and I want to be with you on your journey every step of the way. I’m so excited for this year together and I can’t wait to meet you mentee! (/^▽^)/

Blurb: Hi hi Future mentee! 🙂 I’m so excited to get to know you more and I am truly happy you are choosing to continue with this program because it truly impacts you one way or another. I just want to first off say that congratulations for getting this opportunity to have a mentor who can guide you in the tough transition into college! Your’e amazing! I am a returning mentor for this program! 😀 (YAY) and I think it’s funny how I’m writing this again LOL. I think it’s funny how I was a first year writing a bio to appeal to other first years and I felt I didn’t have much to offer but honestly my mentee turned out AMAZING and I am SO SO PROUD of her (Celyne Demonteverde s/o) and I just want to let you know that once you join this line your’e now an official #SASSFAM member so a lot to live up to but you will do so well! Well in order to join this amazing line (go look at celyne!) or continue reading! A little about me: I love love movies! I really like watching the Critically Aclaimed section of Netflix so I can think about the movie and be a true movie enthuisast (LOL). I also love dogs and am a strong believer in the myth of the sucessful dog woman who has 5 dogs and a family but gets her life together bc it can happen! (T_T) I do want to go to med school one day and I work hard everyday to make that happen so I am a very determined individual and I really enjoy the bio life but as you can see, sometimes I sacrifice for involvements because although I love my determination I am also very very passionate about the things I choose to involve myself in so that means I will be very passionate about you! I really really hope you enjoy this program no matter what mentor you get and I genuinely wish you good luck. 🙂

Breanna Lee

Breanna Lee

Major: Informatics

Involvements: AMP Mentor, Crossroads Campus Ministries, CHP

Blurb: Hello hello! My name is Breanna Lee and I’m an Informatics major, which is kind of like comp sci. If we ever talk maybe/hopefully I can explain more clearly what it is! I come from the Bay Area so I’m a Norcal girl at heart :’) I love reading, writing, arts and crafts, shopping, and animals! Fun fact: my favorite animal is a bird and I have a pet parakeet named Sebastian! I also really really hope some day to get a dog. Like any typical student at UCI, I LOVE boba – especially random boba runs!! (This HAD to be said.) I spend most of my free time on the computer, whether it be on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, editing videos, or coding stuff (bleh).

I may be one of those people who seem a bit quiet and reserved at first, but I promise I will open up if you talk to me and give me a chance. Lots of my friends even call me crazy… which I do not get why… The more you’ll the get to know me, the more you’ll see all of my quirks, including my really weird sense of humor, which no one seems to understand (tear).

Oh yeah, my friends are pretty cool, so I love hanging out with them whenever I can. And if you want, we’ll also be spending a lot of time together too, mentee, doing whatever it is you want to do, whether it be studying, having deep talks, or going out! And if you ever see some cool diy video you want to try, I’ll be your buddy – let’s do this! My goal is to give you advice, to listen to you and support you in all situations, and to help you grow as a person. Ultimately, I want to be not only your mentor but also your friend.

See you soon, mentee! <3

Present: Bboys Anonymous board member, AMP Mentor, Peet’s Coffee Barista, yoga enthusiast,

Blurb: hi u

jk YOOO what’s up potential mentees!! My name’s Brian.. if you haven’t figured it out yet, and I’m from a little teeny tiny city named Milpitas up in Norcal, right by San Jose. (shout outs to norcal). I’m just your average lookin dude obsessed with all things modern hippies love: yoga, coffee shops, nature, the arts, indie music, thrifting, scenic areas, deep thoughts and talks, and all things similar. I’m also an avid bboy/dancer, (attempt to) gym on the daily, and play the guitar/piano. I’m obsessed with going out, exploring hidden gems, downtown, hip areas and coffee shops, and overall just walking around having a good time or an adventure. We can go thrifting, go on a boba/coffee/food run, go to an indie concert, or anything of the sort! I’ll treat ya out heh. And don’t worry, indie isn’t the only thing I listen to, I’m a huge hip hop enthusiast as well! I love hip hop music, dance, culture, and everything! I was even my High School’s hip hop club president my senior year! Besides music, I love just instilling new knowledge every day by reading or writing in a journal/blog. Orange county’s nice and all… but nothing beats the city life of San Francisco, or even Portland or Seattle!! Let’s go on road trips mentee!!! Maybe not all the way there, but let’s venture to LA, SD, or anything of the sort!

In terms of academics, I’m a 3rd year double major in Quantitative Economics and Mathematics. It may sounds intimidating.. but I actually started off with Electrical Engineering and made the switch pretty recently! Don’t worry if you find yourself confused about what to do with your future; i’m here to share my experiences and help you out! We can study together, destress together, relax together, cram for finals together, whatever you wish for future mentee! I’m a very spontaneous dude, and expect a few texts or calls asking to hang out throughout the day, or especially night or even late at night. living life has no curfew (-: but sleep is important, so don’t neglect it!!
All in all, I’m an easy going dude that just wants to make the most out of his life, and to do all things with happiness.

Chris Pile

Chris Pile

Major: Computer Science

Involvements: Kababayan at UCI (Filipino Cultural Organization) – Freshman Class Representative ’14-’15, Academics Coordinator ’15 – ’16, Student Center Employee

Blurb: Hi. Hello. What’s good? My name is Chris Pile and I’m looking forward to being a mentor this year! First of all, congratulations on being accepted into UCI! I hope the transition into college has treated you well, cause I know it can be overwhelming and stressful, but you’ve find the right place! AMP is definitely a good resource to help you grow in college.
I am currently a Computer Science major and I’m from Anaheim. I’ve been living in SoCal for my whole life so I definitely know what our area has to offer so be prepared to be down for countless adventures! I’m a commuter so you won’t have to worry about getting a ride cause I’ll be your personal Uber driver (jk lol, but really tho.) I love to eat out so you’ll always have someone who is down to go on food runs. Music is also my life, really into different kinds of music, but mostly Hip Hop, RnB, and EDM. On my free time, you can find me at the gym (my second home), going to Disneyland (my other second home), watching TV shows, hiking, playing video games…. but honestly who has free time nowadays.. jk LOL. But really, I’m always down for a lot of things and being spontaneous. I love to do all those other things I talked about, but honestly, spending time with others is what I really enjoy, even if it’s something as simple as just talking about life and getting to know each other! I’m the type of person who thinks that it doesn’t matter where you are, but rather who you’re with. Whether it’s in a group or one-on-one, you’ll be surprised how much you can learn about yourself by learning about others. Anyway, I’m definitely excited to help you have the best first year and college experience, and can’t wait for all the adventures and memories with you!

Christine Ejanda

Year: 2nd

Major: Pharmaceutical Science
Minor: Asian American Studies

Involvements: Circle K General Member, Former AMP Mentee, AMP Mentor

Blurb: Hello future mentee! My name’s Christine, and I’m a second year Pharmaceutical Science major aspiring to minor in Asian American studies (aye shoutout to that young social activism). I am from Temecula, CA, which is a suburban city in the Inland Empire, and it’s the complete opposite of Irvine when it comes to the demographics aside from being in the top 10 safest cities in the world lol.

So like I said, I’m a second year Pharmaceutical Science major, aspiring to hopefully be your future professional drug dispenser! Tbh though, I’m not too sure what I truly want to do yet, but I do know that I love interacting and getting to know people, so I hope I can find that in the health science field within these four years of college. If you’re confused about what you want to do, have no fear, we can be confused together lol. College is all about exploration and finding out what things you like and don’t like, so definitely don’t be afraid to try new things! But yo real talk, I’ve pretty much gone through the life and struggle of a first year life science major so if you’re a Bio/Public Health/PharmSci major, don’t be afraid to ask if you ever need help picking out what classes or professors to take!

But anyways, a little more about me is that I really love taking naps. Sometimes I don’t even know if I took a nap or I went through a full cycle of sleep, like uh yikes. Aside from taking naps though, I’m also a big simp (so if you’re also a big simp, dw we can simp together), and I love simpin’ to artists like Jeff Bernat, Gabe Bondoc, AJ Rafael, William Singe, etc. If I’m not simpin’, I like listening to Chance the Rapper, Childish Gambino, k-hiphop artists like Crush, Dynamic Duo, k-indie, and 60’s/70’s/80’s music. I also really love going on spontaneous adventures, so if you’re my future mentee, watch out, because the only word you will find saying a lot is “down” because we will be going on a lot of spontaneous adventures throughout the school year! One more thing, I loving going on boba and kbbq runs, and I have a slight obsession with watermelons so just a psa. In addition to that though, I also really enjoy watching k-dramas ever since I was little, so if you ever need some good recs, don’t be afraid to message me! I’m not the most athletic person out there, but if ya ever need someone to go to the gym with, or someone to just help motivate you, I’m your girl!

Honestly, my first year of college was super fun, and I hope that I can be able to contribute to making your first year of college super fun as well! Can’t wait to meet you mentee, and welcome to UCI!

Blurb: Hello Mentees, My name is George Kenny Hernandez and I am so excited to meet you. I have gone through quite the journey here at UCI and can’t wait to see you enjoy your own journey here as well. I am an International Studies Major with a Minor in Korean and a Minor in Education but originally I came into UCI as an Undecided/Undeclared Major.

I’m an interesting ambivert to meet xD My interest cover a huge range of different things that sometimes don’t seems to mix. I like K-pop and K-dramas but I also like volleyball and photography. I’d say I’m a jack of all trades but master of none, which I take in a positive way. Like I love learning how to do a billion new and different things. I’ve picked up various different hobbies and would love to learn something new with you. I’m from LA, specifically Echo Park if you know where that is. I’ve visited a lot of places in LA since well its my hometown so hopefully we can go together and do touristy things along with visiting some hole in the wall places. I’m an optimist and always look on the bright side of things. I believe people are inherently good and even though I might say I hate people sometimes I truly love them. What I really want to emphasize is that as your mentor I want you to try as many things as possible. There are so many opportunities in life and many times we don’t take them because we are afraid, but I want you to know that I will be right there with you to try it out and make the year as memorable as possible. I love life and want you to have someone who will be willing both encourage you to try new things and be there if these new things don’t work out. If you ever need anyone to hang out with, to cook or bake with, to learn new languages with, to simp with, to just chill with I am so down for anything ^_____^

Blurb: Hi potential mentee! First and foremost, I want to say congratulations on being admitted to UCI! Understand that being able to attend school here is an amazing accomplishment, and you should be proud of yourself because I’m proud of you. Along with that, being here is also a privilege and an opportunity for you to grow and become the best student and person you can possibly be. If I am to be your mentor, know that I will help you with the transition into university life to the best of my ability. I know the change can be intimidating and scary, but you’re not alone! I remember being so nervous coming to UCI because I was skeptical of what the campus had to offer and didn’t know what to expect. But don’t let your apprehensions stop you from doing what you want to do. One outlook I’ve gained from my college experience so far is to try and apply for anything and everything you may be interested in. And like I said, I’m here for you! I describe myself as a very friendly, optimistic, and genuine person, so if you ever need someone to talk to or just a shoulder to lean on, I’ve got your back. Be honest with me, and don’t be afraid to open up. Believe me, you’re in good hands with this program. Not only are you gonna learn a lot about what UCI has to offer you, but you’re gonna meet a lot of new people and make tons of new friends. AMP will be your home away from home. I hope I can be a good mentor for you, but more importantly, a good friend. That being said, just so you get a feel for how I am, I’m usually a “go with the flow” kind of person. There are a lot of different sides to me that you’ll see if you become my mentee. Sometimes I’d rather be in bed on my laptop eating snacks. Other times I can be really outgoing, energetic, and adventure-seeking. As long as I’m comfortable and having a good time, I’m happy either way. I’ve been told I have a good sense of humor too. I can be clever, sassy, and blunt, but not in a bad way. I’m just a really silly and caring guy. Some things I value are ambition, communication, creativity, enthusiasm, loyalty, and trust. I also appreciate being humble yet confident in who you are. I try to live by this myself. Anyways, this should give you a better idea of my personality. Overall, I’m really excited to be a mentor for the program this year and more excited to have another mentee or mentees of my own. I can’t wait to meet you! 😀

Blurb: Hola UCI transfer/freshman. First I would like to congratulate you on surviving life this long. I am sure your experienced are going to make an awesome mentee. But first things first, I like to think I’m a pretty decent person, kind of weird and quiet at first. As a friend I’m really loyal if we hit it off that way and hope to be a helpful mentor. Other than that like to think pretty normal, except some thoughtful insight and wisdom about life and what not (TBH I like ideological conversation).

Other thing you might want to know about me is I like to listen to alternative music sometimes in Spanish or Portuguese. Like watching basketball and soccer by default (FAMILY), and for physical activities I do Yoga or Swim, and anything that seems like fun at the moment. Pretty much mentality at this point; do stuff with cool people to make cool memories. Pretty much an animal enthusiast, currently addicted to Chinchillas, also a vegetarian. I also am really interested in the sustainable growth of the development, over summer I’m taking care of some of my parents greenhouse projects and building up their garden.

As a mentor I would offer insight and encouragement so that you hopefully make the best out of your college experience. I would like to help you find out that college experiences are affordable and that their are plenty of resources to help you succeed as a well rounded individual in college and beyond. Side note: welcome to adulthood, we “can get by with a little help from our friends”.

Blurb: What’s good future mentee?! My name’s Jacqueline, but I prefer Jackie, Jack, JackJack, Jacko, Jay-Qual-Lin (Fun fact: I gained my closest AMP friend when she randomly called me that after a workshop together, hehe). I’m from the 562 area – LONG BEACH representing. Even though I’m from SoCal, I prefer camping and hiking over going to the beach. I love dogs, make-up, coffee, TACOS (we are going to have a monthly King Taco trip, okay?!?!?!), and nice people. If you ask anyone and they can tell you one thing then it is that I am loud, but it’s all good if you want me to tone it down as well. I love anything Shonda Rhimes. I’m currently watching HTGAWM and I am obsessed. Honestly, I’m so stoked to meet each and every one of you! The transition from college to high school is such a wild ride, especially when you are the first person in your family to go to college. You really don’t know what you are doing. Trust, I was in that position last year. Hopefully we’ll be really tight and I’ll be down for you if you’re down for me. We’re going to enjoy future late night runs, cute coffee shop runs (Want to get on my good side? 😉 Buy me coffee, please.), hiking trips, and late night drives together. You’ll see me at my best and worst, but it’s going to be a great run with me!! And I’ll see you at yours too. You’re going to hate me because I’m going to constantly support you in pushing yourself to your full potential because I know you’re going to be capable of so much! Hopefully you gain something out of this program and that we gain something from each other. Even if you don’t pick me, there’s bound to be a mentor in this program for you and I can’t wait for you to meet them as well!!! :p But trust, this year is going to be wet (you’ll understand it sooner or later). I promise!!

Just a few things about me: I’m obsessed with glitter, like my love for it is out of control. I love bobers (seriously, I drink it way too often. I’m addicted and I will never not crave it.) You can almost always find me studying at the Starbucks in Student Center because I’m also addicted to Starbs… sadly. I’m always down to try new food places or go on late night food adventures. I just like adventures in general tbh. I absolutely love traveling and exploring hipster places that have nice scenery. I enjoy taking gram-worthy pictures as well… gotta have that aesthetic. I have a Disneyland pass so if you’re into going to the Land of D, be friends with me pleaseeeeee! Besides going out and having fun, my education is extremely important to me. I definitely prioritize my academics as much, if not more, than my involvements and extracurricular activities.

Other than that, I’m looking forward to being a mentor! I want to provide my mentee with the resources, advice, and help necessary for he/she to transition into college as smoothly as possible. I want to be there for my mentee every step of the way and see how he/she will grow through this amazing program. Also, if you choose me, be prepared for endless memories and endless amounts of mentee-mentor pictures hehe.

I can’t wait to meet you future mentees and I’m excited for y’all to come to love UCI as much as I have. WELCOME TO UCI AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, WELCOME TO AMP, YOU WONDERFUL HUMAN BEINGS!

Blurb: What’s up baby Anteater! My name is Kyle Dimla, a 3rd year bio sci major from South San Jose (YAY AREAAA~ 408 what’s good LOL). If you really knew me you’d know that I’m DOWN. By that I mean I’m always down to go on late night adventures, make spontaneous decisions, and try things I’ve never thought twice about doing. Although I am studying biology with an intent to go into physical / occupational therapy, I am also an aspiring graphic designer, cinematographer, and photographer — so hit me up if you want a new profile picture! I’m especially a fan of night and cityscape photography. If you’re into digital media and social media marketing, I’m your guy! I’d like to say I am pretty proficient with Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects 🙂 If I’m not busy studying, working at the UCI Student Center, or doing anything media related, I typically spend my time looking for new music (favs include Trippy Turtle, Black Bear, Galantis, TroyBoi), scrolling through Tumblr, or watching anime (pls don’t judge me, I’m lowkey a weeb). And if I really have time, I like to sit down and read (anything Murakami, horror, or fantasy related) or watch Netflix (HTGAWM, Orange is the New Black, etc.) Also, if you really knew me, you’d know I have a bad 7Leaves addiction and I plant a lot of succulents (one for every midterm I take, gg) LOL. If you’re a bio major but you aren’t exactly sure what career you want to pursue, hopefully I could guide you onto the path that makes you happiest 🙂

Blurb: Hi, hi! My name is Kyle Mamiit and I am so excited to meet you future mentee! Here is a little something about myself. I was born in the Philippines, but I moved here to the United States when I was 10. I know how to speak a little Tagalog, but I understand everything so maybe I can teach you a few words here and there. As a kid back then, I originally wanted to move to the United States because I always see snow on television and I would get so excited about experiencing snow for the first time if I lived there! However, of course my family and I moved to and grew up in Santa Monica/West Los Angeles so it took me a VERY LONG time before I got to experience snow. But, that’s okay! In my free time, I love to play basketball and volleyball, hike, go on adventures, try new things, have deep talks, and honestly just chill! ALSO, I probably have the biggest sweet tooth tbh. I once ate a whole tub of ice cream for lunch and I soon realized I am so unhealthy. So I changed my ways… not really. I can eat ice cream forever! Anyways, if music interests you, I listen to all kinds of music, but I especially love Alternative, Hip-hop, and EDM music.

I think that’s it about me! I can’t wait to spend time and hang out with you! My goal as a mentor is to personally help you out and give you any piece of advice! I promise to support you and be the very best possible mentor I can be. If you ever need any help, or if you have any questions, I’ll be there for you! Just hit me up! Hope to meet you soon!

Blurb: AYYYYY, my name is Lanah and I’ll be one of your lead mentors for this upcoming AMP class! As a previous mentee coming straight from this program and back again as a lead mentor, I can definitely say that this program has set a great foundation for me here on campus. All of the individuals that are apart of this program are amazing! I have gained amazing friendships from this program, so get ready for all your psuedos! <3That being said, I’m excited for what you all can bring upon this campus. This program is definitely something you don’t want to overlook, SO IF YOU’RE READING THIS APPLY FAM BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!!!!

Some insight into the person that I am: I come from Fresno, CA! I’m half Filipino and half Thai. Long story short, my personality is anything but quiet!! I’m all about enjoying myself in every moment, and if you knew me already you’d know how loud and extroverted I can be. I have this natural trait at being able to vibe with people easily, and if you’re down to pair up with a chill person, choose me! I definitely reciprocate people’s energy because I like to have a great time. This campus is lit, and the opportunities to meet people are endless. As your mentor and friend, I’m ready to help you explore your first year with as much fun guidance as you need. College has had its ups and downs for me all within one year, I definitely have personal and professional experience to help you with your struggles. I can go on a tangent about how many L’s I took during my first year of college. Although it is a terrifying experience to fail, I want to remind you that no matter how low you fall, you can only go up. If you really knew me, you’d know how hard I fell during my first year as a college student. But understand me when I say that your first year is a time of many mistakes! That being said, I’m all about growth and progress, and as your mentor I want to be there first hand to witness you grow into your true character. My goal as your mentor/lead is to inhibit that growth within you. Whether you are an exrovert or an introvert, life works in many strange ways and you’ll be surprised on how things fall into place once you’re in college. Nevertheless, I am extremely excited to hear about all of your goals and be apart of them! Here’s to a wild future mentee, I hope you’re hyped and ready! You have so much to look forward too, I hope you’re excited because believe me when I say I’m down for anything! My personality really doesn’t allow me to stay in one area for too long, I like to move and go out! 80% of my paychecks are dedicated to eating out, so be ready for food adventures! Some of my favorite things to experience are music festivals/concerts because I like feeling the energy of everyone around me! My #1 music genre will always be rap because it hits really close to home. However, EDM comes to a close 2nd. Some of the artists I listen to on the daily are Drake, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Snakehips, Flume, and Jhene Aiko! Drake is lowkey or maybe highkey my life haha…. I once accidently quoted him in an interview… I basically like anything that gets me hyped. Btw my goal for 2017 is to go to Coachella, so mentee come through! Congrats on reading all the way to the end of this bio… I CANT WAIT TO MEET YOU SO CHOOSE ME PLZ

My name is Lara Mirzakhanian and I am from the San Fernando Valley. I love the valley, but I LOVE TO TRAVEL. Although I have been very fortunate to have the chance to travel to a lot of different places across the world, I think that the best part of traveling is meeting new people and also sharing the experiences with good company. In New York I met a woman who didn’t make it to work because the subways stopped working and instead helped my family get to the airport. In Rome, I met a begger who was actually only posing to be one to get money from tourists. In Vatican City, a man took my money for a necklace, but didn’t give it to me. You never know how people are going to surprise you. No matter where you are from, I can’t wait to hear about it and to help you get to where you want to go! With all of that being said, I also can’t wait to have FUN with you. Whether you like to stay in and just chill with friends (me) or go out and party (also sometimes me).

Mary Pauleen Co

Blurb: Hello future Mentee! 🙂 My name is Mary Co and I’m a 2nd year Biological Science major. I understand that entering UCI can be overwhelming. They list the resources and opportunities that they can offer in one sitting and by the time they’re done with their presentation, you probably don’t remember half of what they said. But look no further! I can offer you my knowledge and experience to ease up your transition from high school and this new college environment filled with resources and opportunities. I would love to be your convenient and portable answering machine to any of your academics, personal and even random questions. Not only that, I want to be your friend. So let’s be friends! 🙂
Now that I laid down my goal as your mentor, let’s get to know me! I was born in the Philippines and resided there for 13 years. I’m fluent in Tagalog so maybe I can teach you some words. I currently live in Lakewood and I’m a commuter. Heads up! I’m probably one of those crazy Asian drivers but I survived my first year so I think you’ll be fine just in case you want to hang out somewhere far with me. I like eating and spontaneous adventures. Also, I love watching crime shows, anime and Korean dramas so if that’s your taste, then I can MODERATELY watch it with you. 🙂 Lastly, I like to play tennis, swim and listen to music. That’s it about me and I’m extremely looking forward to get to know you. I can’t wait to meet you!

Blurb: AHHHH HALLO FUTURE MENTEE 😀 First and foremost, welcome to UCI and welcome to AMP! If there is anything I have learned throughout my years of University, it is that a good support system is crucial to have and you’re on your way to gaining an amazing one as this program progresses! I chose to be a mentor because I know how scary it can be to feel like you fighting your struggles with no one by your side and that’s where I want to make sure that you know you do have someone, ME! Sorry didn’t mean to shout, I am currently writing this while my roommates are asleep and I have a lot of excitement bottled up so I needed to let it out somehow.
I am entering my fourth year at UCI, old I know, but that just means I have more wisdom to offer (like where the best and cleanest bathrooms are AYYY). I am studying Sociology and minoring in Psychology. Both of these fields interested me because I believe people are so fascinating and unique and not one person’s story will be the same as the next. These fields offer me the chance to understand a person at a deeper level which is why I want to pursue a career in counseling, or therapy when I graduate.

FOOD is something else I am extremely passionate about. One time I was doing reading for my Sociology class and in the text there was a section explaining how sharing food with one another breaks down social barriers (sidenote this is why you do your homework because sometimes you will find perfect quotes about food LOL). 100% agree with that statement because food is one of the things that we all have in common without fail. We all have to eat! That being said I will never turn down an adventure for food. It can be 3am and you might be wondering if I want to check out this new taco place across town, but you’re unsure if I would be down for that late of a food run…YES I WANT TO CHECK IT OUT lol. I also love hosting dinners at my place. I grew up in a family where my parents cooked dinner from scratch every night and it has greatly effected my way of life. I try to cook every night and it honestly makes it easier and more fun when I have someone to cook for (aka I am less likely to burn the food if I need to impress someone). My place is always open to you and new food creations as well!

Some of my other passions include playing soccer, finding new hiking spots, baking, random trips to Barnes&Nobles, hanging out at Disneyland, and last, but not least going grocery shopping with friends. Yes, you read that last one right haha. It ties back to my food passion, but also I am very much a believer in simple hangouts. There does not have to be all of this planning and money involved when hanging out. As long as if there are quality people surrounding you then the good memories will form effortlessly.

As I stated before, a strong support system is needed as you experience the rollercoaster that is university life. In these next few years, you will discover things about yourself that you did not know, you might discover things you did not want to know, you will find out your passions, you will cry, you will laugh, but most importantly you will succeed. Being at a University is already an accomplishment in itself and each day that you continue to be enrolled is a win. I am so excited for you to learn about yourself and the impact you have made, will make, and will continue to make in other people’s lives. I hope I can join you along this journey!

Blurb: Hi bby anteaters/potential mentees, WELCOME TO UCI!! First of all, let me just say you’re already doing college right by applying to this program because you’re in for an amazing, unforgettable experience. I’ve been in AMP since my freshman year and I can easily say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in my college career so far. This program has allowed me to branch out of my comfort zone, meet such a diverse pool of motivated and positive individuals, and grow as a person professionally, emotionally, academically (the list goes on and on) and I genuinely hope it does the same for YOU
But okay, so some facts about me!
My name is Melissa and I’m a third year bio major pursuing dentistry in the hopes of becoming a cosmetic dentist in the future! So if anyone has questions on science courses, I gotchu. Some of my hobbies include listening to multiple genres of music (but mainly EDM tbh LOL), watching Netflix especially dramas (How to Get Away with Murder or Pretty Little Liars, anyone??), spending countless hours on Youtube watching Buzzfeed or makeup tutorials, creating content on Photoshop or Illustrator, shopping, and going on spontaneous food runs especially if 7 leaves or Seaside is involved. I also LOVE makeup, eyeliner is my holy grail and I can try different looks or talk about different products and colors for hours on end. It’s a form of expression and honestly, it’s just fun LOL. Finally, I’d like to consider myself a pretty open person and I love meeting new people and making new friends. So future mentee, whether it’s making a quick boba run, keeping up a snapchat streak, or having deep conversations, I look forward to meeting you because we’re in for a gr8 year ^__^

Blurb: Hi potential mentees! ^_^
My name is Nina and I’m a 4th year Bio major who is pre-optometry. My personality type is ESFJ, which apparently is a person who enjoys supporting friends and family and likes to make sure everyone is happy. Which is so true! I always love hanging out with people and catching up with others because I really like getting to know people and socializing. I will definitely try my best to make sure my future mentee is having a great time at UCI and in AMP, especially with me as their mentor 🙂 which shouldn’t be hard…heh jk. But anyway, more about me is that I loveeee Disneyland. Yes, I’m one of those people, and I’m a proud deluxe pass holder. Let’s go together if you’d like :3 I also like watching Korean dramas/variety shows and listening to Kpop (EXO-L for life) on my free time. I low key reallyyyy appreciate Korean culture so I love Korean stuff and especially their food HAHA. Most of the time when I’m not working, doing schoolwork, or at my involvements, I go on food adventures and eat good stuff. You will be traveling around and getting fat with me; I have no doubt about that LOL. I talk a lot about hanging out and going out all the time, but know that I also take my academics really seriously as well. My closest friends know that I would choose homework over an event when it really comes down to it. As a 4th year bio major, I’ve basically gone through 3 years of this major and I have a good amount of knowledge about it. I will help you as much as I can. Being a bio major is honestly not that bad as people make it seem. You’ll definitely have time for free time and having fun, as I did my freshman year as well. Can’t wait to meet you, my future mentee!!!! Let’s have lots of fun next year ^^

Involvements: Former AMP Mentee, Former K-3rd Dance Teacher, Writer/Blogger, House Church Co-leader, Jerhico House of Prayer

Blurb: H O L A! 🙂 My name is Reina Hong, and I am currently a 2nd year English major. I originally came into college dead serious about becoming a doctor, but in short, after a lot of deep shower thoughts and weird fate-like experiences, I decided to study a subject that truly made me happy.

I love to eat bread, chocolate, and desserts like ice cream, which leads into my hobby to gym (more or less out of necessity to maintain the former hobby… sigh). I also enjoy blogging aesthetical pictures on Tumblr and my feels on WordPress, jammin’ to indie, dancing, reading, and singing and playing guitar (jam sesh anyone?). I love shows like Portlandia and The Office (if Dwight Schrute from the Office was a spirit animal, he’d be MINE).

Although I’m all about having a good time, there be no question how academics tip the scale. If you need help with essays, I’m yo gal. If you need to remember how to school or what is motivation before your first final, I’m yo gal too. So if you’re down for study dates or homework over coffee (maybe I’ll buy), then H5! Let’s pursue this mentlationship togetha (O K I admit mentlationship kind of sounds gross, but we will think of a better word… or better yet hashtag to coin).

Sup, my name is Roman Chan and I’m a second year double majoring in Biological Sciences and Psychology and Social Behavior, looking into the field of pediatrics. You’ll probably catch me wearing all black outfits (occasional white or gray every now and then) 355 days of the year. I don’t have anything against color LOL I just prefer to wear black! I’m from Arcadia, CA, which is in the San Gabriel Valley. I watch a LOT of TV shows haha but I’m trying to cut down on the number of shows I watch. Some of these shows include: Game of Thrones, Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, Gotham, How I Met Your Mother, Friends, The Flash, Orange is the New Black, Sherlock, Sense 8, The 100, Naruto, Attack on Titan, etc. If you watch any of these shows, please hit me up and we can watch them together! LOL Other than watching shows, I also really enjoy hanging out with friends, like grabbing some bomb food (always down for ayce kbbq tbh) or just going to the beach late at night to talk haha I’m always down to hang out so hit me up whenever you’re free and we can get some drinks or food, or just to study and do homework.

Just the fact that you’re on this page reading these bios means that you’re somewhat interested in this program. I just want to really urge you to apply! This program has given me more than I could ever ask for. It has given me connections to different organizations on campus and has opened my eyes to many things that I was oblivious of when I was coming into college. But yeah! If you have any questions about the program, please don’t hesitate to hit me up!

Major: Undeclared

Involvements: Antleader Mentorship Program

Blurb: HELLOOOOOO! First off I’d like to say congratulations on your acceptance to UC Irvine and congratulations on deciding to attend UC Irvine! I promise you, you won’t regret it!
Allow me to formally introduce myself! HI! My name is Tiffany Huynh and I am currently a second year undeclared major. But I am trying the Biological Sciences route but I’m still not entirely sure because I recently discovered my strange love for solving math problems, as geeky as that sounds! So if you don’t have your major and your life plan all figured out, it’s not that big of a deal! We all still have time! I grew up in the San Gabriel Valley (the 626!) and I grew up doing Chinese cultural dance with my family. I’m an only child so I can’t wait to get a wittle mentee and adopt them as my younger sibling! If I had to choose one of the 5 senses, I would always choose ears so you would always have someone there for you to listen to you! I guess I can say I’m a gentle person, but I can and will be sassy and fierce when the situation calls for it!
I love dancing, music, and watching DIY and cooking videos and telling myself I’ll do this one day but never actually attempting any of them! I can somewhat play the piano but I always dreamed of playing the guitar. My favorite foods are sushi, hot pot, kickin’ crab, boba, cheesecake, hot cheetos, hot funyuns, sour gummies, green tea ice cream, and Haagen Dazs strawberry and coffee ice cream! I have no favorite color and I love to Netflix! If you’re ever in need of something to watch, might I suggest The Office, New Girl, How I Met Your Mother, FRIENDS, Modern Family (not on Netflix but great show!), Once Upon a Time (also not on Netflix but so good!) and Parks and Rec! I LOOOOVE shopping, especially cute things that I have absolutely no use for, like colored pens! I mean treat yo’self right (Parks and Rec reference)?! Destinations I want to travel to before I die: London, Paris, NYC, Maui, San Francisco, Bahamas, Vancouver, Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, (the list is still being updated)! Fun fact: I have had this pillow since the day I was born and I still hug it to sleep to this very day! Has it been 19 years already?! I seriously, literally, cannot live without it! It’s a wreck, but I love it and I don’t plan on throwing it away anytime soon! I am a puppy person and I love all things and everything Disney! Another fun fact: like I said before, I strangely love doing math problems! So if you’re ever stuck on a problem, you know who to contact! But that’s me!
Once again, congratulations on UC Irvine! I’m not going to sugar coat it for you; first year is definitely a tough one! But it’ll be the year where you begin to find yourself and it’ll definitely be worth it! It’s scary, but you will never have to go through it alone! I’ll always be here to genuinely listen not only as your mentor, but also as your “big sis”, and your best friend!

Blurb: Hi I’m Ashley! Pick me pls
First of all, suuuper impressed that you’ve taken the initiative to throw yourself into this and apply – I spent my first year sleeping. BUUUT if you pick me as mentor, I promise to stay awake for u <3

I’m a third year Art major, making my way into a double major, from the Bay (Aaay – Pleasanton to be exact), though I was born in Seoul, South Korea. I’ve moved around here and there, but I’m super glad to be ending up in UC Irvine. I’ve been having a blast with the things that I’ve done here, and I’m so excited for the experiences y’all gonna have.

I’ve grown my passion for my major out of my love for children animation – I’m all about throwback shows, and songs for that matter. Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Bob’s Burgers, sitcoms like Parks and Rec, etc etc. Two main loves are Avatar: the Last Airbender, and Harry Potter. I looooove KBBQ – let’s go all the time! Also into sushi, boba, and anything really. I’m half-Japanese, half-Korean, so my food interests reflect that.

Most importantly, I like to throw myself in the things I do and love – and respect people who are passionate and dedicate themselves to their passions. Never a fan of the whole concept that getting too into something is uncool, or that caring too much is a bad thing. I’m very easy-going and chill, kinda socially awkward but I feel I’m able to get along with everyone!

The fact that you’ve taken the initiative as a freshman means i already like you! so if we seem like a good match, pick me pls!

Food. Traveling. Sleep. Dance. Photography. Music

-First is food. I love food :3 I love all types of food especially KBBQ and Shabu Shabu (can’t turn down good meat).
-I’m in love with traveling. I was lucky enough to be able to have travelled to different countries in the past (technically being here is also a travel for me hehe). I studied abroad Fall 2015 to South Korea and let me tell you that that is one of the best experiences I’ve had in my life. If you have any questions or interests about studying abroad, feel free to ask!
-I’m a night owl but I love my sleep ahah. I don’t know how that combination worked out but it did
-Dancing is my exercise. I’m not the greatest dancer out there but hey it’s fun so why the heck not
-Photography is also something I’m not that great at but love doing. It’s just simply a hobby that comes hand in hand with traveling 🙂
-Music: I’ll have to confess that I love K-pop hehe. Pretty much interested in all things Korean: Korean dramas, movies, music and most importantly food. This should explain why I went to study abroad in Korea hehe. But other than that, I generally like any music genres too

*claps* You’ve made it through all that writing and words above yay. I’m super excited to meet everyone especially you, my future mentee! I want to say welcome to UC Irvine!! I hope you’ll love being here as much as I do and as your mentor I want to be a part of your UCI experience! Also AMP is honestly a great place to start. You’ll learn lots, meet new precious people that may or may not turn out to be your lifelong friends and have great adventures together. I want to thank you for reading my mentor profile and I hope you’ve read everyone else’s too. Everyone has been preparing lots and are all really excited to meet you! Looking forward to creating new memories together <3

Just for some factual stuff about me : My name is Hieu Dao-Tran (think of as “”HEE-oo””). I am a second year Computer Science and Engineering major. I’m from a small city south of Sacramento called Stockton which is also in California. My height is 5 feet and 9 inches. My shoe size is 11.5-12 depending on what brand of shoes. My favorite color is YELLOW because I love the brightness and the way it stands out. My shirt size is a medium. I like to get combovers whenever I get a haircut because I believe it fits my head well. Headphones do not stay in my ear whenever I wear them and run around which is pretty sad because I want to be able to enjoy some good music while doing my festivities. BUT ANYWAYS. Enjoy your first and apply to AMP! Maybe you’ll be MY mentee ;).

Blurb: Hi first year! First off, JOIN AMP!
AMP is a program that is filled with life changing lessons and friends that can ultimately shape the beginning of your college journey. It is filled with people who are genuine, kind-hearted, and extremely fun. It is filled with a depth of knowledge that opens your eyes and really makes you understand others and yourself so much more. It guides you through your personal growth, your academic path, and your professional career. It is a resource as well as a home on this campus. I joined AMP as a mentee when I was a first year and I can say that I cannot (and don’t want to) imagine my first year without it. I have met so many mentors who I look up that have provided me the answers to my questions and more. I have made friends that I have laughed with until I cried and gone to when things get rough. This program has broadened my spectrum of understanding the world and I believe it will only continue.

With that, I’m Julie! I’m a second year Public Health Policy Major with an interest and experience in Business (administration/marketing). I’m from Colton, California (next to UCR) and I’m a first generation, Vietnamese-American. I love to paint, dance, craft, go on adventures (foodie af too). I have a thing for clothes and make up, having my own style is important to me! I love Harry Potter, Marvel, and a bunch of other things that I can nerd out on. I value my culture very much because it’s a big part of who I am, what I have learned and what I value. I love to be involved on campus and I try to give new things a shot because it could be the best decision I have made for myself. I like to believe that I am an outgoing individual who is super cool, has your back, and laughs at anything but I can also be pretty blunt and super serious (still having your back). Most importantly, I value building relationships and making differences. I am a firm believer in self-love and care, which is easier said than done but no doubt I will be a firm believer in you. I hope that I get the chance to be either your mentor or your friend this next year and more. Good luck and I hope I can be your mentor!

Major: Engineering Undeclared -> Arts

Involvements: Current: AMP Mentor, Liwanag
Previous: Freshman Edge, Korean American Student Association, AMP Mentee

Blurb: Hi there! I’m Kaitlyn and I’m a second year Engineering Undeclared major from SoCal. Although I came to UCI as this major, I’m switching into Arts this year. It’s a pretty big change, but so is coming into college for the first time. Congrats on your admission! This is only the beginning, though– college is going to come with a lot of firsts, and I’ll do my best to support you through them, whether it be your first time trying kbbq or your first time failing a midterm. c;

My biggest hobby has always been drawing, both digitally and traditionally. They consist of people most of the time, but I’m hoping to expand my skills! As for shows, I lean a bit more towards comedy (Community, Parks & Rec, Fresh Off the Boat), but I do get sucked into other neat ones like HTGAWM or The 100. I also have a huge soft spot for animated shows (Avatar TLA/LoK, Star Wars: The Clone Wars/Rebels, Rick and Morty, FMA:B, etc.) I could honestly go on and on about my favorite shows but I’ll spare you the reading LOL. Other than that, I enjoy eating seriously amazing food (aka kbbq, seafood, boba, caramel frapps), going on spontaneous adventures (aka food trips), and having study sessions with friends (aka more food trips– after studying, of course.)

I entered UCI overwhelmed at everything there was to do (and everything we had to do lol), but my first year ended up being incredibly rewarding. I hope to help you sort through it all, and if not me, then the other fantastic mentors in this program. We believe in you! 🙂 I may be a bit quiet, but if you need a listening ear or a shoulder to lean on, I gotchu. Some qualities I value are communication, honesty, and trust, all of which I’m trying to work on myself. Lets support and challenge each other towards growth– I can’t wait to meet you, future mentee!

Outside of academics and work, I try to be as adventurous and whimsical with life as I can! Whether it’s going to concerts, late night food trips, random trips to LA/SD, or even spontaneous adventures you can count me in! Aside from this traits, I also really want to foster a cool relationship with you and get to know who you are and hope that you could trust me as a confidant. Hope to see you soon!

Blurb: Hi friends! I’m Marie and I’m a 4th year Nursing Science major. My time in college so far has truly been one worthwhile adventure—from finding myself after my first heartbreak to successfully getting into UCI’s Nursing Science program to finding my place at UCI. It’s been a crazy ride and unfortunately the majority of the ride was lonely. So to my future mentee (and other mentees in the program), I want to be something for you that wasn’t present during my first half of college: A pillar of support you can lean on. I’m looking forward to all the heart filled conversations and food adventures we’ll embark on—as well as the trials we will help each other through. I gotchu mentee!

In terms of the little things that make up me, I’m a commuter and I’ve been commuting from Tustin (my hometown!) since my first year of college. Originally, I entered UCI as a Biomedical Engineering major, but then I switched to Public Health Science when I realized that the math and physics life wasn’t for me. I eventually changed my major to Nursing Science when someone apparently decided I could be a nurse and save lives??? LOL. (Honestly, I’m really looking forward to taking care of people and saving lives as a professional healthcare provider!) In my free time, I like to read, write, vlog, take pictures, paint, draw, do arts and crafts/DIY stuff, watch YouTube tutorials, eat food, sleep, hike, go to the beach, watch TV shows, and hang out with friends. My favorite TV shows are as follows: Game of Thrones, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Orange is the New Black, Jane the Virgin, Sherlock Holmes, Downton Abbey, and The Walking Dead. Kdramas are always good too (favorites: Rooftop Prince, 49 Days, Lie to Me). I also watch a good amount of anime (favorites: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Psycho-Pass, Magi, Parasyte, Erased) and occasionally I’ll read manga (Claymore, Mirai Nikki, etc.) Currently I’m watching Naruto: Shippuden. If you want to have a binge-watching session of some show, hit me up because I’m probably down. Either way, I’m excited to meet you, future mentee!

Blurb: Hello potential future mentee! I’m thrilled that you’re checking out the Antleader Mentorship Program (AMP), and I’m excited to get to know you! I’m Philip the Filipino, and I’m going into my last year at UC Irvine as a Biology major, and I am pursuing my dream of becoming a dentist in the military! I was born in Colorado, but I grew up in South Orange County my whole life.

As a fourth year commuter, I know what it’s like to feel lost at school- from choosing my major, my classes, study habits, time management, and my friends. But over the years, I’ve encountered many inspiring people who have helped shape me to who I am today.
I would truly love to share what I’ve learned with you so that you can have the best college experience possible!

A little bit about me: I’m an Eagle Scout, I’m currently the president of the UCI sailing team, and I’m also involved with volunteering in a small town in Mexico where we provide medical health care to the underserved community. I also enjoy cooking, photography, mountain bike riding, exploring new places and the occasional binge-watching anime series in one sitting.

College is a huge change in your life; most of us come unprepared for what to expect! But let me tell you- you don’t have to go through this transition alone! I’m here to help you transition into your first year at UCI. My advice for all of you: don’t be afraid of doing something unfamiliar and stepping out of your comfort zone. As part of the AMP family, we will be here through thick and thin- when things are going well, when your world is upside down, or if you need someone to help pick you off the ground; I’m here for you! Welcome to UCI, mentee!

Blurb: Suhh dude or dudette! It’s ya boy Sean in the house! I’m a third year biological sciences major at UCI and boy can I tell you you’re in for a ride! Looking back these past 2 years I can say with confidence that I’ve changed into someone I can be proud of and that you will too! You’re in for wonderful experiences as you spend your time here; you’ll find many new and great friends, discover passions that you never knew you had, and overall have the world at your fingertips as each day passes by. At the same time, you’ll experience some life changing times, both positively and negatively. You may be coming from out of state, or might be moving out from your parents’ house for the first time, or even just might be afraid of starting over. But do not fear! Thes are some of the best years you’ll ever spend in your life; you just gotta learn to embrace and pursue it! I hope you’re excited to be coming to UCI, and I’m super excited to meet you!

A little bit about myself. Everyone I know likes to call me a big ball of energy. With good reason too. I enjoy doing just about anything and will always give my 100% doing so! Some more specifffic interests would be exploring new places, foods, or activities. I’m always down to do things and if you do not believe me, just ask! I guarantee that, if you pick me as your mentor, I will always be here for you. Whether it’s just to have fun or something more serious, I’ll always be a call or hangout away.

Blurb: Hello hello to you! Yes you, the person reading this. I hope that you are doing swell today. My name is Steven Chow, but I usually go by Chow and to my friends Chow Chow. Don’t be shy I can tell that we’re already going to be getting along swell. I’m from the good old Bay Area from up North where the weather changes 4 times a day. I’m going to be working on my final year of College when I get to meet you. Going through that struggle of finishing off my CSE major. Don’t worry though I’ll always be there for you when you need me. I’ve been involved across a wide range of organizations and met all kinds of people throughout my 4 years. So I definitely have a lot experience to hopefully answer any and all questions that you have. Yet, if you do stump me I’ll always know where to go to help you get more answer. I’m an lazy active kind of guy who doesn’t really know what he’s going to on a day yet until it happens. If you’re willing to put up with my random and usually fun antics I’ll guarantee you a year to remember.

Some quick facts about me: I like to rock climb, play Frisbee, eat, cook, read, nap (ahaha That’s how I””m able to stay up late), play games (digital and board games).

Right now I can’t think of anything else that comes off the top of my head. But HOPE TO MEET YOU SOON!

Blurb: Yo. Future Mentee.

~~~
Oh, don’t you dare look back!
Just keep your eyes on me.
I said, “”You’re holding back, “”
I said, “”Shut up and dance with me!””
This future mentee is my destiny.
I said, “”Ooh-ooh-hoo,
Let’s have the time of our lives!
~~~

Three words that encapsualtes my entire life mission: laughter, food and music.

In my time here at UCI, I’ve often reflected on what I have learned here at. It’s not what the textbook teaches me. It’s what I learn from others — the experiences I’ve forged under tremendous pressure, maddening moments, uncontrollable laughter, and times of tear-stricken faces. I can graduate college next year and satisfied that I have made in an impact with my philosophes, life lessons and me just…being me. My resiliency of bouncing back and treating all the rejections and discouragements as REdirections to a more fulfilling opportunity. Because I allowed myself to be vulnerable, I’ve created invaluable friendships and communities in my Involvments. One of my life philosophies is to try everything at least once!

The world I come from is Los Angeles (originally from North Hollywood, San Fernando Valley). I’m a Mexican-American that doesn’t speak Spanish. Sad, I know… BUT. It has pushed me to learn more about my culture. I have a younger brother, Felipe, who is currently 14 years old. He is insanely talented at drawing. When I have free-time, I like to be adventurous and cook new recipes or start new Netflix series. My favorite all-time actor is Robin Williams. I absolutely adore all of his films. Together, we’ll watch some of my favorites and hopefully they’ll become our classics. I enjoy watching old films and I have a projector so we can watch all movies on a bigger “”screen”” ! My all-time superhero is Superman from the DC Comics world. Christopher Reeve and the quote I like by him, “”So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable.”” This quote definitely calls upon your will to take inititive to follow your dreams and make them a reality. As you can tell, my interests are everywhere. I love film, music, food, and everythung else in between. I challenge myself by doing new things. If you’re looking for a buddy with an open mind, here I am. I will help you to the best of my ability on your journey. Need career, major/minor, classes, or organization involvement, I am your girl! We will take college by the reigns and take on all the opportunities coming our way.

Oh, we were bound to get together,
Bound to get together!

Blurb: HI FWIENDS ^__^ my name is Thomas Matthew Wong ( but please since we you are already family, just call me Tommy :D) and I can’t wait to be your mentor and be there for you whenever you need me. I want to make your first year of college amazing and definitely one that you will always cherish. This is the program that made me love UCI my first year as a mentee and now I want to be the person that’ll help you find your place here in this big college.

I’m currently a 2nd year Undecided/Undeclared major who is still exploring all the options that college has to offer.(TBH, I have no clue what I want to do yet, which is why I am an U/U major.) So if you are ever in that position, I can help guide you thru it! It’s okay because this whole process is a journey and you’re just taking your first step.

A little bit about me: I’m from the Bay Area. GO WARRIORS! NorCal is where it’s at. I have been playing tennis for a long time. I’m a BIG Warriors fan, my family has been fans since before I was born, so basically, I didn’t really have a choice. Youtube fanatic, I love music, most types, I even dibble dabble in KPOP and Kdramas here and there. I also love photography (getting my photo taken) and films (most movies except horror). I am a foodie. So in short, I just love life and all it has to offer. So if you want to go on a spontaneous night food trip, go work out, go shopping, go on a photoshoot, go watch a movie, go watch a NBA, go study, or anythingggggg, I will always be there for you. I can’t wait to meet you, mentee! Let’s make this year a memorable one!

It may seem a little weird right now, but trust me being a part of this program will be so worth it. I have gained so much from this program and if you’re willing and open, you will gain the same amount as me if not more.

Blurb: Hello future mentee! I am so incredibly excited for you, along with all the other first years, to begin your college career at UCI! I know the thought of starting a new chapter in your life in a completely new and unfamiliar setting is exciting and maybe even a bit nerve-wracking or intimidating. However, I can guarantee that this program and I will be able to help you make a smooth transition into your first year!
Here’s just a little bit about me! My name is Tiffany Kim, and I am a fourth year Biological Sciences major with a pre-med focus. My goal in life is to become a pediatrician! I currently work at Women’s Medical Imaging in Newport Beach, which is a medical clinic specifically for women’s health. I am also a Clinical Care Extender/ Intern at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach. In the past, I was also a volunteer at Karate For All, a pediatric clinic for special needs children, which is a great opportunity to work with children and get hands on experience in occupational and physical therapy.
I would like to say that I have an immense amount of compassion towards others. I love spreading my patience, kindness, and care to as many people as I can, and I’m extremely passionate about working hard and challenging myself to do my bit of good in order to help my community and the world a better place. This year, I was given the humbling opportunity to be a SPOP Staffer for LOTUS YEAR WOOHOO!~ I was also the Lead Mentor for Charmander Family for AMP during the 2015-2016 school year #chartribe and Sand Family Spring 2016 hehe.
So what do I like to do during my free time? Well, tbh, I’m pretty lit. LOL JUST KIDDING.. or am I? (I guess you’ll have to find out hehe) I love watching movies, listening to music, going to concerts/ music festivals, shopping, eating, eating, eating (did I mention eating?), going to the beach, hiking, camping, and the list could go on forever! Basically, I’m a pretty down and outgoing person who loves to do and try almost anything, so adventure awaits!
HOLY MOLY!! I’m super excited to meet you already, future mentee, and I can promise you that you will be in good hands 🙂

Blurb: So, like hi there super lost and confused freshman, who has no idea what this program is but is hoping it leads to good friends and memories, because you are applying to the right place, but that’s still open for judgment since the program is different for everyone. I mean this is kind of weird because what do I even say about myself without sounding like a pretentious butt or just sounding like a total nerdy loser. Either way, I am actually like a good mix of a pretentious butt and a nerdy loser, but I promise you I’ll try my best to be a good resource to you, open up many opportunities for you, and a friend you feel comfortable confiding in.

I am a second year Bengali-Muslim first generation English and Public Health Policy double major with the need to be a social activist in all aspects of my life, as well being a super chill homie to my friends because I like people(sometimes). I like reading(the list is endless), Spoken Word(kind of a small scale award winning writer, nothing much), mascara(kind of a weirdo about eyelashes), dressing up(Forever 21 is the homie), FOOD, Bollywood(literally everything, marry me Hrithik Roshan), KPOP(BTS, Infinite, EXO before Kris left), anime(Future Diary, Durarara!, Sailor Moon, etc), FOOD, dark chocolate, and HAVING DEEP CONVERSATIONS AT 3AM(only at 3 am, jk anytime is good).

So, like… yeah there’s a lot to me that I can’t really think of… but hopefully we will get to know each other even if you’re not my mentee! But understand that, I applied to be a mentor to be good resource and friend to you, the mentee or mentees. You may feel distant from old friends and you will fear that your weird quirks may be insufficient for the social standards of UCI, but through the many people you will meet and centers you will walk through, you are bound to find the place or people that will make you love college. JUST REMEMBER, YOU WILL MESS UP, YOU WILL CRY, YOU WILL LAUGH, YOU WILL WANT TO WRAP YOURSELF UP IN A BLANKET AND BECOME A BURRITO, BUTTTTT AMP Fam is here for ya. WHEN YOU THINK YOU CAN’T WEAR THAT OUTFIT, YOU WEAR IT BECAUSE YOU BEAUTIFUL. YOU BROKE? ILL BUY YOU FOOD AND PUPPIES. YOU WANT PASTA? ILL COOK YOU PASTA. I am here for you, homie. -fist bump- Stay Gold, Mentee, stay gold.

Blurb: SUHHH MENTEE. Name’s Amy, but you can call me Baemy ((; I’m a second year biological science and computer science double major with a minor in bioinformatics. You may think I’m crazy, but I love every minute of it. I entered college thinking that I would graduate and go to medical school (I mean that would make my parents happy for sure), but college introduced me to a grand world of possibilities and right now my goal is to become a software designer for a gaming company (PREFERRABLY BLIZZARD OR RIOT. GET THAT OVERWATCH AND LEAGUE KNOW WHAT I’M SAYIN). Video games have been an integral part of my life ever since I got my hands on my dad’s Super Nintendo and Play Station and helped me open up to friends when I was a shy potato in elementary and middle school. However, the possibilities for my future are endless and I may just end up in the medical field, or maybe not at all! I think that too many people try to force themselves into well-known professions in their subject field, for instance medical field for bio majors and teachers for education majors, so I want to explore what careers are out there for me and try to merge the best of my passions to create a profession that I’ll love for the rest of my life (:

Besides my education and blatant obsession with videogames (please play Overwatch and League of Legends with me ヾ(。・ω・)シ), I find enjoyment in a lot of other hobbies like art (all types) and exercise. Right now, I’ve been working out for 1.5 hrs for 6 days a week in order to get in shape and lead a healthier lifestyle and overall try to be the best Amy I can be! I ALSO WANT TO BE REALLY FIT TO KEEP DANCING AND IMPROVING. Even though I only started dancing my 1st year at UCI, the dance community has been overwhelmingly accepting of beginners, so I will continue to strive to grow as a dancer and refine my own style. Also, I am a firm believer in the idea that dancers are automatically more attractive than the average bear (get that punani know what I’m saying -wink wink nudge nudge-). From that last statement, you might have noticed that I’m not exactly straight. And you’re right! I’m a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and I identify as a cis-gendered pansexual woman, so if you have any questions about sexuality, gender, or identity please don’t hesitate to ask me. I won’t judge you for anything, so please confide in me if you’re feeling any type of way. I’m also hella down for late night food runs or adventures (tbh I’m down for ANYTHING LOL), OR COOKING NIGHTS. I really love cooking for myself and for other people because I believe it really brings people together over a homey meal.

Oh, and I also love volunteering and humanitarian efforts to make the world a better place for EVERYONE in it, so if you’re down I’d love to go volunteering with you :3 AND I FORGOT TO MENTION I HAVE A CAT AND HER NAME IS CHARLIE =owo= Hope you like cats mentee.
But mentee, I’m really, really, excited to meet you this upcoming quarter. NO LIES. I’m honored that you would consider me as your mentor and I look forward to all the memories that we will make together. I hope you grow to your fullest potential and find your home in AMP to be as welcoming and warm as I found it (:
Love, your Vietnamese, pansexual, overly-affectionate, huggy, video-game-obsessed, girl-loving, mentor <3

As your mentor, I want to be there to watch you grow into the person that you want to be and help you pursue whatever dreams/hopes you have coming into UCI. Fav Netflix series: How I Met your Mother and Parenthood (im an old soul sorry HAHA)
I’m stoked to meet and get to know all of you this upcoming year. My first year was one of my favorite memories by far in college. It was fun, but definitely had some challenges. I know coming to college is a big change and can be intimidating, but it is exciting too! I hope to be able to help you guys with your transition and be there every step of the way 🙂

Involvements: Former AMP Mentee, AMP Mentor

Blurb: Let me start of by saying welcome to UCI baby anteaters!!
Hello, hello! My name is Charline Minifield and I stay killing the game! Haha
A little bit about myself: I enjoy being outdoors, being surrounded by good company, going out on adventures, taking spontaneous trips/outings, singing, dancing, staying fit and much more! If you cant tell from my picture, I am Mexican AND Black and take extreme pride in that because I think it is important to stride in confidence and to be proud of your roots. I like to laugh (and am often told I have a peculiar/strange/contagious laugh) and strive to live a life full of positivity. In summation, I am a lively girl who loves going out and has great dance moves- if I do say so myself 😉 In my life, I like to take life lightly while always sporting a smile and a positive attitude! This is something I hold dear to heart because truth is: life will get difficult and there will always be challenges around the corner, but with a smile and a positive attitude, you can tackle the world!!
Now, if you take a gander at my involvements, you will find that currently my only involvement on campus is with AMP but for this coming year, I have taken it up a notch and expanded my involvements because I think something that is highly important is well-roundness. It’s important to boost your involvements or if not, get to know people who will change your life.
This is something I have AMP to thank for; not only did it introduce me to some amazing humans beings who became great companions during my first year but it also helped me to grow and learn from various people who I wouldn’t have had the chance to meet otherwise! Whenever I struggled with something, they were there to help and lend a helping hand. You may think “I am an adult. I can handle life. I don’t need a mentor” but lemme let you in on a little secret: IT’S OKAY TO ASK FOR HELP. College may or may not be hard but its nice to knw that you have a support system when you may need it. Let AMP be that help for you and TRUST you will not regret it! ANNND another bonus is that I can be YOUR mentor!(:
SO, if you are an excited baby anteater revved up to get the balls rolling, I Is Thee Mentor For YOU! I’m excited to meet you and get to knw you and for you to get to knw me(:
(choose wisely)

Blurb: Hello hello! My name is Chelsea and it’s wonderful to meet you! Congratulations on your acceptance into UCI and moving into the next chapter of your life.

I’m a double major in Computer Science and Gender & Sexuality Studies, and yes, it’s an uncommon combination. Although they seem to be opposites, both are lenses to view and critique the world, and I believe there is value in their intersection. My choice of majors wasn’t decided when I entered UCI; instead, it was through the exploration of my passions that I discovered how valuable both of them are to me. That’s one of the biggest pieces of advice I wish I received as a first year: it’s okay to not know what you want right at this point of your life.

As a mentor, my number one goal is to serve and support you, future mentee! Whether that means to be your friend, to be present, to laugh, to listen, to give advice when you ask for it, to give you space when necessary, or all of the above, I will be here for you.

Please don’t be intimidated by my age and amount of involvements! As an incoming fifth year, I’ve had a lot of time to explore my different interests and dedicate my time to organizations and events that I believe are worthwhile.

I consider myself an introvert; in other words, I regain my energy by spending quality time with myself, and prefer to chill and get to know people on a one-on-one basis. Other personality traits I have include INFJ, Ravenclaw, and Waterbender. Some of my favorite things are bullet journaling, pandas, corgis, Japanese food, my YouTube subscriptions, Kingdom Hearts, Disneyland, Game of Thrones, Descendants of the Sun, Sailor Moon Crystal, Avatar the Last Airbender, Attack on Titan, Stardew Valley, and Don’t Starve Together, and Pokemon GO. I’m always down to talk about these topics :3

Thank you for taking the time to read my bio! I look forward to meeting you soon future mentee 🙂

Year: 4th

Major: English, History, and Education Sciences

Involvements: Current Involvements:
-ASUCI
-Front Desk Attendant at the ARC
-AMP (4th year in the program and lovin’ it whoo-whoo!)

Former On-Campus Involvements:
-SPOP Staffer (Evergreen)
-Discussion Leader (Uni Studies 1)
-Student Outreach and Retention (SOAR) Center Outreach Coordinator
-Academic English Peer Tutor
-Summer School Teacher (High School)

Blurb: Hi. My name is Cody, and mayonnaise is not an instrument. I hail from Westminster, CA but haven’t commuted in all my 3 years here at UCI (yes, it’s possible for those who live close by and don’t want to commute). When I am not spending time in AMP, you can find me: playing video games, hiking, working, going out to eat when I’m not broke, spending time with my friends, doing homework, or sleeping (because let’s face it…you don’t get enough of it in college). I like to keep myself open to new journeys and opportunities. I’ve recently have been getting into blogging and hiking/camping with some friends. I want to pick up rock-climbing this year…so if you’re down (after studying) let’s hit the gym! 😀

Random Facts/stuff: Star Wars = awesome. If you like hot pot, we’re going to be going to Boiling Point very often. FMA: Brotherhood = too good. Favorite game: if you haven’t played Mass Effect…smh. Social Justice = good. I also like quotes…I keep a google doc full of em.

Goals: Education is really important to me, and I hope to become a teacher or work in education somewhere in the near future. Why? Yes, academics are important, but the reason why I value education so much is because of the values and lessons about life I have learned. Education for me hasn’t been so much of learning academics as much as it has been learning about life.

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Involvements: Former Intern for Filipinos Unifying Scientists-Engineers in an Organized Network (’15-’16), Cadet at UCLA for Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps., B-Boys Anonymous, AMP Mentor (Hopefully yours! :D)

Blurb: Yo, what’s good my future mentee?! My name is Donn and I’m from Glendale, California. I am a second year Mechanical Engineer whose life dream is to become a Disney Imagineer working on the rides at Disneyland because my goal in life is to create as much fun memories as possible for everyone! :D. However, before all that, I am aiming to chase my other dream of becoming an Air Force Officer and to try to become a Developmental Engineer. Hopefully, I can build and fly them planes, though!

Alright, lemme talk to you about what I do. First of all, I LOVE music. I spend as much time as possible to revolve around it. Whether it be with trying to find new artists to listen to, trying to write raps in case I gotta tell a story or win a battle, or even trying to B-Boy (breakdancing), you will probably see me do something involving music. But that ain’t all I do. I love adventures. I will personally take you on an adventure if I’m ever free, my future mentee! We can do city explorations, hiking trails, or even go on a foodie spree. As long as it’s new and interesting, I got you! However, whenever we hang out, 9/10 hangouts will probably involve food, so you gotta get ready for that. So, if we ever go get AYCE KBBQ, be prepared to stay there all night. Hmm… I also follow sports like crazy. Huge Laker fan, so if you be dissing them, watch out while I get at you… I kid, but serious, though. Got my Kobe jersey ready to come at you. But if you’re down to watch a live basketball game at Staples Center or even play ball, I’m down! And lastly, as you can probably figure out, I’m a Disney fan. I’m not crazy obsessed with it, but I just love a lot of the aspects of it. My favorite movie is Up (that opening scene, though :'( ), but all Pixar movies are just as awesome. So, if you’re also ever down for a Pixar binge, as I keep on saying over and over again, I got you!

Blurb: Hello , helllo 🙂 My name is Edgar Espinoza and I am super excited to met you all. I was a mentee for AMP and I have to say it was the highlight of my freshman year. So, a little bit about me, I was born and raised in Santa Ana, California literally 15 minutes from UCI. I am a second year double majoring in Criminology and Politcal Science and I plan on becoming a politician someday idk we’ll see haha.

I would say that I am pretty outgoing and optimistic. I love going on random, spontaneous adventures and I am literally down for anything! I love sports and I love staying active. I would have to say that my favorite sports are soccer (FC Barcelona), baseball (Dodgers), and boxing, ( I don’t have a favorite boxer :D). I am also a big movie fanatic. I love horror movies, Silence of the Lambs being my favorite and pretty much anything directed by Quentin Tarantino. My taste in music varies tremendously. I can literally go from Pink Floyd to Drake real quick lol. If you get to know me, you will find that my taste in musci is not what you exepcted! Also, I very much enjoy giving back to community and I love reaching out to others and I enjoy making other people happy. I like to cook and I love to dance even though my dance skills are not the best haha. Anyways, I am an easy going, chill guy who not only loves to go out and have fun, but also stay in and look at dank memes for a good amount of my time. ( SEND ME SOME DANK MEMES). I also work at Target so whenever you’re looking for a discount or a good deal, I can lowkey hook you up, just don’t tell my manager 😉 I like being very personable with others and I enjoy talking about topics such as the meaning of life and what not. Besides, all that I will do my absoulute best to make sure that you’re transition from high school to college goes smoothly! College is going to be fun, take my word for it!

Blurb: If you are not down to ball, keep scrolling.
Just kidding, don’t keep scrolling.

You probably have seen me on the Class of 2020 page because I have nothing else to do with my life.

What’s good potential mentee(s)! My name Jeff! I hope you are all excited to be at UCI. This campus is more lit than people give it credit for. Honestly, don’t be too intimidated going into this whole new experience. I have been through it all already including going through AMP as a mentee. I didn’t know what to expect out of this program, knowing no one in this club other than a few mentors. But making the most of my opportunities within this program made my time as a mentee worthwile and an experience I will never forget.

I bet you didn’t want to know more about me. Oops. Anyways, I am born an raised from Sunny, San Diego, so if you are down to hang at the beach or get some bomb Mexican food (or Phil’s BBQ), hit me up. I waste my time doing too many nonsensical and time-consuming activities. I work out at the ARC a lot (we are going to gym, whether you are down or not). I like to visit art museums and appreciate art, I like to read poetry on my free time, and just sit and chill at the park. I was a band geek in high school, if that even matters. (It does to me tbh).

I am always down for anything. Spontaneous kbbq runs, boba runs, trips to LA/San Fran, or to the beach, I am always down to go. I play video games, PC Master Race. (Fallout 4, Kingdom Hearts, Battlefield, Call Of Duty, NBA, NFL, Skyrim, Maplestory, CS: GO, League of Legends, DotA, etc.). I watch some TV shows (Daredevil, Game Of Thrones, Arrow, The Flash, Grey’s Anatomy, House of Cards, Sherlock, How I Met Your Mother, True Detective, How To Get Away With Murder, Naruto, Dragonball Z, Sword Art Online, etc. to name a few *yes Netflix and Chill is a thing). I like movies too (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Star Wars Original Trilogy, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Godfather, A Clockwork Orange, Inception, Disney Movies, Marvel Movies, DC Movies, Horror Movies, and Rom-Com movies if I am in the mood). I am an active raver, but will listen to many types of music but country. (EDM, Trap, House, Trance, Country, Rock, R&B, Hip-Hop/Rap, Alternative, Classical, Jazz, etc.). I guess I am pretty heavy on sports. BALL IS LIFE. I love basketball. I also play Ultimate Frisbee, some football, tennis, and cricket. BALL IS LIFE.

Honestly, I am down to earth, and always willing to have conversations. I am INFP, so I know what its like to be intimidated or afraid being an introvert. But I am slowly growing out of my shell and trying to be a more social person. If you ever need help with Computer Science/Engineering stuff like Math or Physics, you can ask me for help, but I might not have the answers all the time. I ain’t that smart. I hope you like dank memes or being savage online. I like to be open-minded and listen to whatever anyone has to say so you can talk to me about anything. I want to be there for you as more than a mentor, I want to be a friend and someone you can rely on for help or just to be there for you. Can’t wait to meet you.

Fair warning, I am never this cheesy or emotional, I just do this for others’ pleasure.

Blurb: Hey potential mentee! Many people will say I’m what you may call a softy. I’m stern and direct when I have to be, but otherwise when I’m just hanging out I’m a levelheaded and mellow guy. I know firsthand many of the struggles freshman year will bring upon you. Being homesick, navigating a huge university, keeping up in fast-paced classes, the overwhelming amount of opportunity… My UCI journey has been a rollercoaster, but if anything that means I’m here to offer my perspective to help guide you through yours.
I’m a city boy through and through. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and I love taking trips up there whenever I can. I dearly miss my mom’s Mexican food buuuut she taught me well and PLUS, I know all the good cafes up in LA and in the area around Irvine as well! Look forward to many coffee and food adventures should you preference me. Hopefully by the time you’re reading this, I would have already brought my car down from my parents’ place and we can explore everything the OC has to offer 🙂 Soon enough you’ll understand what the beach + donuts + 2am have in common!
Whether we’re a pair or not, you’re definitely still gonna be seeing me around and please feel free to hit me up. I promise I’m not as scary as I look (which is saying something because hopefully I don’t look scary at all)! As your mentor, I will be there for you day and night, whatever the case may be, and I hope that by the end of your freshman year, you would have found in me a big bro that you can count on for the good and the bad times!

Blurb: Hello new anteaters!

My name is Josh Ratoviz, and I am a 4th year Biological Sciences Major! My goal is to go to medical school after I graduate (gross getting old is a thing). Trust me, I’m not your typical science nerd. I actually have friends and make time to enjoy my life! I want to be an example that no matter what your goal is, with dedication, it is definitely possible. It won’t be easy (at all), but it’s the difficult times in life that truly allow you to grow into the person you want to be. I know that sounds corny, but honestly you will soon learn that being yourself is the most important thing you can possibly do. UCI has been the best time of my life and I want to help you explore yourself to make you the best person you can be. No matter where you come from, just know that UCI is a new start, and you have the ability to do whatever you want, be it in your area of study, friends, involvements, or yourself.

I chose to be an AMP mentor because now I am a wise old man who will be sassy and take a lot of naps, and probably make everyone around me uncomfortable. I’m just kidding, but not really. I do have a lot of past experience, be it things I did well or things I completely failed at. I want to be there for you and allow you to learn from my past. My main priority is you, and trust me, there will be a lot of spontaneous trips, food, Netflix, sleep, tears, ice cream, and hopefully puppies because why not.

As a first year, I loved my hall experience, but it’s not easy to be in a new environment with new people (been there, done that). I was homesick, scared, confused, and definitely overwhelmed. These things are normal, and those feeling are only natural, but it is how quickly and efficiently you overcome those fears to really turn your blank canvas into a work of art. I want to be there for you when you get your first bad/good grade, when you pull your first all-nighter, when you laugh so hard you cry, or maybe cry so hard it makes you nervously laugh. I gotchu, it’s lit.

I like to think of myself as a generally happy and enthusiastic person (no one is perfect but I try my best). No matter who walks in the room, they will get a hug and a smile, and a friendly face. I am a firm believer in inclusivity, openness, and respect. Trust me when I say I will never judge you, no matter what. I accept you for who you are! And in that, I will accept your choices and background, be it religion, sexual orientation, ability status, gender, socioeconomic status, race, and many many more. Unconditional love and respect.

Here’s a little about me: I was born in Canada, but I’ve lived in San Diego since I was 3. I’ve been singing all my life, and although I’m not the best, I’m always down for a jam session! I’m also trying to learn how to play uke and piano, so if you know how, you can teach me or if you don’t, we can learn how to play together! (yay musical bonding ^o^) I also love painting, DIYing, and anything crafty so if you’re down for that, lets be artsy af

But if you aren’t feeling the indoor vibe, I’m always down for random adventures! (especially foodie or aesthetic adventures) #views INDOOR OR OUTDOOR, get you a mentor who can do both, ya feel? OR WE CAN PLAY NIGHT TENNIS/BALL UP/WORKOUT AT THE ARC! Or we can go hiking, or take walks around Aldrich at 2AM and talk about life. #Simping25/8 I’m honestly down for anything at any time of day/night, so just let me know!!

Lastly, I know how scary it can be transitioning from high school to college because it’s still pretty fresh for me too… but it’s also very exciting and I hope as your mentor, I can be right there with you to take on the ups and downs that may come as the year unfolds. <3
I’M SO EXCITED AND CAN’T WAIT TO MEET YOU ALL! (~ ̄▽ ̄)~

Research Intern at The Concord Group

Blurb: Heyyo! My name’s Richard and I’m really looking forward to being a mentor this year.

TO BE HONEST, I never really had a mentor besides my dad growing up, and in my first year of college, I felt like I would be fine on my own. Boy, was I wrong. While I wasn’t involved in AMP my first year, I feel nothing but genuine appreciation to the mentors I’ve had since the start of college. They really helped bring out the best of me, pushed me to do things I never thought I would want, and helped me become the person I am today.

A bit more about me, I’m from Anaheim Hills, California, but I was born in La Mirada and I grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Kinda strange, but that’s my life.

I’m a pretty simple person! All that really matters to me in my life is having fun, learning new things every day, and loving and being loved.

During a normal week, you’ll probably catch me going way out of my way to grab a bite to eat, and honestly spending maybe a little too much money on food. (I’ve been working on cooking more at home and becoming MasterChef status but ya boy ain’t got no time for that). I low key read manga every day but I also find time to hit the ARC and somehow stay active. I danced a little bit in high school and I was super into my drumline in high school, but through my life I’ve played a whole bunch of instruments. I didn’t bring any with me to college, but I’m really into music in general and I can talk for days about hip-hop and EDM. I’m also on reddit. Like a lot. All the time. It’s bad.

Anyway, I’m really looking forward to being a mentor this upcoming year. You can expect a lot of love of course, but I’m also going to push you to have the absolute best time your first year. A lot of things that I’m involved in now, I really wish I got involved in earlier, and I think having just someone to push or low key FORCE me to do it would have really helped. I’m looking forward to getting to know all of y’all!

Blurb: Want to hear a joke about corn?
…nevermind, it’s too corny.
Hello hello! My name is Sabrina, and I am currently a Psych & Social Behavior major. Born and raised in San Jose (the Bay Area heeh), at the odd age of 19, and with a deep deep love for scrunchie hair ties- these are a few given things about me.
I enjoy too many things: from the realms of creativity in crafts, baking, and art to the long days of watching just about anything on tv, and to the spurts of spontaneity that comes from food-ventures and fun (maybe Disneyland?????), I am willing to pass the time in the means of spending quality time with great friends! I also have a penchant for different types of music: it can range from jazz music, to pop, to even alternative- I am open to all kinds of music! However, I have been getting really into the Kpop craze, especially in the areas of K-R&B (can I just say, iKON and Zion T. tho? ) — I am willing to hold long and insightful conversations behind the art of such songs that I do not fully understand because of language barriers heh ಠ益ಠ.
Speaking of which, I do also enjoy watching Korean dramas, surfing the internet in search for the cutest baby videos, and stuffing my face in a load of sweet lemonade and candy (I have a sweet tooth, eee). Aside from the crazy spiel of my interests, I am simply this -smol- person who aspires to use her abilities and warmth for the better good of her community and those around her.

As a mentor, I am superbly excited to meet you, future mentee! Being a past mentee myself, I have definitely learned and experienced new opportunities and transitioned into my college career with a stride towards making the most of this “strange world.” I hope that as your mentor, I will be able to give you the availabilities for your own growth, perseverance, and new openings to you new college career; I’m already there for you every step of the way!

See you soon! (▰˘◡˘▰)

Blurb: HELLO FUTURE MENTEE!!

I hope you are hungry right now, because I am currently planning all of the awesome places that we will eat at this year!! I am so thankful and proud to call you MY MENTEE, and I HAVEN’T EVEN MET YOU YET (Michael Buble, bless). Just a little bit about me, I hail from beautiful FRESNO, California (http://bit.ly/22ojtJH). I am the oldest of two brothers, but my baby cousins currently own me, so I report to them. When I am back home, I enjoy playing golfing, and playing tennis. But if you need to know anything about me it is that I am a huge car guy. High key, my favorite movie of all times is White Chicks (NO SHAME). In terms of music, here they are: EDM, R&B (USHER, is goalz), KPOP (Taeyeon, notice me),& COUNTRY (No, really). TV shows: Suits, Top Gear, Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Simpsons, Ellen, Buzzfeed, and JK Films (I also watch a lot of youtube).

Okay, let’s talk food. I hope that you are ready for LA and SD trips for food, and sightseeing (Do it for the likes)! I hope that you are hungry 99% of your day because chances are, I will be too. I am a firm believer that food is the universal language that brings people together. Speaking of bringing people together, I cannot wait to meet, hang out, and be a part of your life! Whatever stage that you are in your life, please know that you will be loved, respected, and accepted by me (ahh, simp! ^.^). I feel that not only will you learn a lot from me, but you will bring a whole new world of perspective and knowledge for me, as well. This is a two-way street, and I am looking forward to walking down this path with you, especially during this exciting time in your life! Congratulations on being accepted into UCI, I am beyond excited to meet you (Okay, let’s eat!).

Blurb: Goals: My goal for AMP is to firstly to get an intimate relationship with my mentee and be a support system for mentee they can count on if he/she ever goes through anything. I want my mentee and I to go out and create memories such as bringing my mentee to concerts, hiking, parties, LA trips, and especially try new things together for the first time. I plan to invest a lot of my time to help my mentee get incorporated by showing them around campus, and pushing my mentee to try new things and also teach them lessons I’ve learned through my mistakes. I hope my style of mentorship will help the mentee feel like they are at home where they are comfortable and to also push the mentee to try leadership roles.
