2-4 hours per week.
Reggaefest, Shocktoberfest, Ice Skating, Mini Golfing, Arc Ropes Course, Boomers, Bonfires, Ice Cream Nights, etc.
The mentor will get to choose how many he or she is comfortable with and will keep the same mentee(s) for the duration of the program.
For the 2010-2011 school year, mentors need to be AT LEAST at Sophomore Standing.
Mentors should be good role models and provide as much guidance as possible
Call or Email mentee(s) to check up on them
Attend socials and meet with mentee(s)
Pairs of mentors and mentees will also be grouped with other pairs of mentors and mentees to form a larger group of students called a “Cluster.” This Cluster is intended to be a greater source of guidance and is meant to form a more intimate setting where all participants can become better acquainted with one another. The role of the Cluster Leader is to maintain order within the Cluster and to encourage group activities outside planned AMP events.
Leadership topics will be covered (i.e. Communicating styles, stress and time management, how to stay healthy and healthy minded, etc).
Panelist nights will include Question and Answer sessions.
In order to apply, applicants must be willing to commit beginning Spring 2010 (for Mentor Training) through the completion of the 2010-2011 academic year.
Mentors will receive Leadership training during the AMP Mentor Spring Training course.
Mentors and mentees will be paired based on major, personality, interests, etc.
You can request to be paired with a certain major or gender, however, final pairings will be based on overall compatibility.
Mentors are required to enroll in the 2 unit class to gain leadership knowledge, however, if a mentor is unable to attend the weekly class an alternative option will be provided.
Anyone can be an effective mentor as long as he or she can offer guidance with his or her mentee.
All participants are required to attend 60-70% of socials, depending how many are held for that quarter.
