Item Number: 68 Legislation Number (B: Bill, R: Resolution): R51-61
Author:   Alvin Phan   Second:  Parshan Khosravi
Synopsis: MyUCI Fee Initiative
Date of Presentation: 2016-03-01

Whereas, the Associated Students of UC Irvine fee supporting services for students has remained static for more than 15 years at $18 per quarter,

Whereas, the rate of inflation since 1997, according to the Consumer Price Index, has been 30%, leaving real dollars available for services for students shrinking on a yearly basis,

Whereas, the average Associated Student quarterly fee across all of the UC schools is $53.10, with the Associated Students of UC Irvine being one of the lowest income/lowest budget Associations,

Whereas, as the decrease of state support for higher education has forced the University of California to make dramatic cuts, which have been largely directed toward student support services, decreasing the quality of student life at all UC campuses,

Whereas, an increase in the operational funding to the Associated Students of UC Irvine would allow for greater student support services and programming, particularly as the State Legislature and the University of California continue to privatize the cost of UC education,

Therefore, let it be resolved that the My UCI Referendum be placed on the ballot for the Spring 2016 elections to be voted on by the undergraduate student body with the approval of the Legislative Council.
