Defend the Bren
The Defend the Bren series seeks to enhance the home-court advantage for UC Irvine athletic teams by supporting student attendance and Anteater pride.
In 2013, we launched the Defend the Bren series with Student Affairs through the support of Dr. Parham. We finished the Men’s Basketball season strong, getting over 1,000 students at our last home game. We also brought out over 1,400 students for Homecoming and over 3,000 between our three athletic rallies that year.
From those humble beginnings, we hope to expand upon the past success in 2015-2016 and will
focus on Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Men’s Volleyball, Women’s Volleyball, Men’s baseball, and Men’s tennis. The games that are a part of this series were chosen on a variety of factors such as popularity, equity, timing in the quarter, and resources. While not every sport is represented in this series, every sport is important to creating a climate of success, strength, and perseverance on our campus. UCI is proud to be a Division 1 school, with high caliber athletes representing us.
In addition to the Defend the Bren campaign, ASUCI will be hosting three athletic rallies this year for all students to enjoy. We want to be able to promote the games that are important not only to divisional standings, but that will also build school pride and create a climate of success and accomplishment within our student body.
Anteater Express shuttles will provide transportation to and from each Defend the Bren game on the schedule. The buses will run from ACC to the Bren and back starting an hour and fifteen minutes before each game and lasting until an hour after each game. On rally days, shuttle service will start typically two hours before game time. With two shuttles, they would be picking students up every 15 minutes or so at each location.
We are excited to see everyone there, so come out and support our teams and show our opponents what it means to be UCI!
