ASUCI HIGHER ED ACCESS TRAVEL AWARD

AWARD APPLICATION

The deadline for this application cycle has passed but please be on the lookout for more information for the next cycle of applications.

We are super excited to launch our first ever award program in order to increase access to graduate and professional schools. Most jobs require advanced degrees which creates a barrier for students from marginalized communities. With this program, we hope to aid students and ensure that financial burdens do not become a barrier in pursuing applications for advanced degrees. On average, applications to programs cost about $60/campus and students apply to anywhere from 5 to 50 campuses. Most campuses also require students to interview at their institutions for which the student has to cover their own costs for travel and accommodation. The current educational system fails to realize that students do not have disposable income at hand to be able to afford applying for advanced degrees.

We hope that this program will not only set a precedent to other departments at UCI but also other institutions across the United States to create equitable access to higher education.

Through this program, we will be able to reimburse for application, travel and hotel accommodations only based on the following UCOP policies. Up to $500 of reimbursement will be provided per person on a first come first serve and need basis. You may choose to request however little as possible and for whichever component (application, travel or hotel accommodation). Once the amount is awarded, further details about the reimbursement process will be sent to you through email. The final deadline to apply for this award is Friday of Week 6 (May 10th, 2019 at 11:59 pm)
