REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Authorization to fund bell hooks event

Whereas it is the goal of the ASUCI Speaker and Debate Series to bring influential speakers to the UCI Campus; and

Whereas bell hooks is a well known author, feminist, social thinker and teacher; and

Whereas bell hooks? books and essays are used widely throughout academia; and

Whereas bell hooks has written extensively about changes that should be made to traditional educational practices to make education more holistic; and

Whereas the costs of bringing bell hooks to UCI amount to $11, 500; and

Whereas it is advisable to partner with campus departments with similar objectives to minimize costs; and

Whereas the contributions for the bell hooks event is as follows:

Cross Cultural Center $4500
ASUCI $4000
Dean of Students $3000

Whereas, the bell hooks event was initiated by the ASUCI Academic Affairs Vice President,

Let it be resolved that ASUCI Legislative Council authorize the ASUCI Academic Affairs Vice President to issue a check in the amount of $4000.00 from Speaker and Debate Series account # 6423-7270 to the Cross Cultural Center.

Let it further be resolved that this event occur on Thursday, January 27, 2005 at 7:00 PM in the Social Science Lecture Hall.
