REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Acquisition of New Technology

Whereas the University recommends replacing servers every 5 years, and 2 of our servers are entering their 7th year of service and,

Whereas VMware will allow new servers to be deployed without having to purchase new hardware to run them on and,

 

Whereas the ASUCI server and office software products are 6 years old, and the newest versions have been available for two years and,

Whereas our current Adobe software is 4 years old, and the new licenses will allow all ASUCI students access to use the product, not just the yearbook staff and,

Whereas ASUCI can use more backup space to make sure that we have adequate versions of past files (buffalo terastation) and,

Let it therefore be resolved, that $37,000 be allocated from ASUCI Reserves Account #6010 to purchase the following technology items,

ISCSI Storage Array ($12,823)

VMware VI 3 ($5,795) and vCenter Server ($6,537)

Buffalo TeraStation ($1,662)

APC Smart-UPS ($1,000)

Software Upgrades ($10,500)

Total Requested: $43,000 (this includes buffer for tax, shipping, etc)

 Let it finally be resolved that any unspent funds be returned to ASUCI Reserves at the conclusion of the project.
