REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: ICS "Farewell Mr. Thornton" Event

Whereas, it is the responsibility of the ASUCI ICS Representative to serve as a liaison between the ICS students and faculty,

Whereas, the current ASUCI ICS Representative is the current chair of the Administrative and Academic Affairs Committee on the ICS Student Council and has been planning an event for students and faculty to see off an ICS lecturer, Alex Thornton

Whereas, the preamble of the Constitution of ASUCI declares as our purpose, "to provide a forum for expression of student views and interests... [and] to enhance the quality of life",

Whereas, events held to honor lecturers or professors, who are highly respected by students, have provided almost unanimously excellent education, and have not been adequately incentivized to stay allow a forum for student expression,

Whereas, the honoring of lecturers or professors, who have gone above and beyond to contribute to the undergraduate body's education, incentivizes them and others to continue to improve student life,

Whereas, this event is entitled "Farewell Mr. Thornton" and is to be held on December 3, 2010, from 4:00-6:00pm in Donald Bren Hall 3011, through the ICS Student Council and expects around 50 students and around 10 faculty members to attend,

Whereas, many students and faculty have expressed concern in Mr. Thornton's departure from the ICS department and interest in thanking Mr. Thornton for his work in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Science,

Whereas, snacks in the form of chips, cookies, and drinks will be provided for the hospitality of ICS students and faculty at the event,

Whereas, the snacks provided at the event is estimated to cost $60,

Let it be resolved that the cost of the snacks for "Farewell Mr. Thornton" be allocated from Council Unallocated Account #6501-7120 following the event with the matching of the appropriate proof of receipts of the snacks bought for the event.
