REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Philanthropy through Music Concert

Whereas Legislative Council has an unallocated account used to promote student life,

 
Whereas Finance Committee has approximately $3500 in unallocated amounts,
 
Whereas the earthquake in Japan has caused thousands to be homeless, hungry, and in
need of help,
 
Whereas Legislative Council can help in the cause of Japan through this benefit concert,
 
Whereas the author of this legislation will have the money in his hands and working with
responsible individuals,
 
Whereas the author along with a colleague plan to bring The Pack/Young L along with
(possibly) Omarion during Week 9 (Thursday, May 12),
 
Whereas the author receives excellent prices for bringing in an artist of an established
reputation in the music industry,
 
Whereas Legislative Council will have the opportunity to promote themselves to their
respective schools and the school as a whole,
 
Whereas the author is asking for $3000 from Council’s unallocated account,
 
Whereas the $3000 will be used for paying the artist and the venue
 
Whereas profits will go to pay for the expenses of the event to raise awareness for the
disaster in Japan through the American Red Cross-Japan,
 
Whereas the author is connected with other DJ’s in the Orange County/Los Angeles Area
who will also be in attendance and performing,
 
Whereas the author along with his partner are investing $1500 each,
 
Whereas admission will be affordable for UCI Students and free for Council,
 
Whereas admission will be available for non UCI Students at a price of $15
 
Whereas ticket sales will be the primary source of revenue,
 
Whereas ticket sales are expected to be over 200, at $10 a ticket,
 
Whereas the event will cost over $6000,
 
Whereas the event will bring attention to the campus as a whole because of the popularity
of the artists,
 
Whereas the event will take place in Digg’s Restaurant and Bar in Huntington Beach
from 10 P.M. to 2 A.M.,
 
Whereas success in this event will bring about more artists to UCI in the future such as
Steve Aoki, Afrojack, and Wiz Khalifa
 
Whereas council receives early entrance, meeting performers, backstage passes, and
benefits similar to future events,
 
Whereas it is in council’s best interest to help bring reputable artists that strengthens
school spirit,
 
Whereas council’s name along with the partners will be on the flyers and advertisements
to help promote council’s name,
 
Let it be resolved that the author asks for $3000 from Council Unallocated Account (6501-7120) with the rest coming from out-of-pocket expenses, sponsors, and other investors with profits going towards paying
towards expenses of this event to help the people of Japan through spreading awareness
of the disaster.
