Whereas, the service provided by Legislative Council is to serve the well being of the student community, to uphold the standards of the constituents represented, and ensure every measure taken is in the best interest of the UC Irvine Community,

Whereas, UCI has a broad array of clubs on campus that promote diversity, competing ideologies, student involvement, activism, and strengthen the UCI community,

Whereas, it is the duty of ASUCI and Legislative Council alike to promote the agenda of the students and provide the means for all of these clubs, which are “clusters” of student interests, to have access to the student body,

Whereas, the access to more assistance for these clubs by ASUCI would allow them to help spread their messages around campus and to be well represented on campus,

Whereas, there are over 500 clubs affiliated with UC Irvine,

Whereas, ASUCI Legislative council members are paid seventy-five dollars a month for their work on council,

Whereas, the largest portion of Legislative Council’s budget is dedicated to paying the salary of council members,

Whereas, serving on council should be for the public good of UC Irvine and is a public service to the UC Irvine Student community,

Therefore, let it be resolved that voting members of Legislative Council take a 50% cut to their salaries and the new savings be reallocated to the Club Outreach Commission under the Vice President of Student Services

Let it further be resolved that their shall be no changes made to the pay of the Speaker Pro Tempore (Council Speaker) of council and that the funds allocated to Club Outreach be solely used for the purpose of Club Outreach and not reallocated to any other portion of Student Service’s budget.
