REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: ASUCI Technology Upgrade

Whereas, many of the computers within ASUCI haven’t been replaced in over three years, and

Whereas, the University recommends replacing computers every 3 years, and

Whereas, ASUCI has equipment in place to virtualize all of the desktops in the office, and

Whereas, virtualizing desktops would cost less and be green, and

Whereas, virtualizing would also bring in a one-time rebate from So Cal Edison that would help offset the cost of replacing physical computers with virtual computers, and

Whereas, a backup SAN is needed to make sure that ASUCI is protected if there ever was a server failure,

Let it be resolved that $17,000 be allocated from Reserves to pay for 36 virtual computers; Reserves account number 3010, and

Let it further be resolved that $9,000 be allocated from Reserves to pay for a backup SAN; Reserves account number 3010, and

Let it finally be resolved that any income received from So Cal Edison or from the sale of computers being replaced, be place in Legislative Council Unallocated acount number 6501-7115.
