REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: EVP Office Request for Funding from Legislative Council for the 2013 Student Lobby Conference

Whereas, ASUCI, Legislative Council and the Executive Vice President’s Office seeks to “empower students with the knowledge and resources to be agents of their own University”; and

Whereas, the 2013 Student Lobby Conference, taking place March 1st - 4th, provides UCI students with the opportunity to be advocates on statewide legislative issues that directly affect our state, our students, and our University; and

Whereas, the Executive Vice President’s Office is committed to promoting statewide advocacy and the empowerment of students; and

Whereas, the Student Lobby Conference upholds this commitment but giving the students the opportunity to lobby Senators and Assemblymembers to prioritize higher education to make them accountable to their constituency; and

Whereas, Legislative Council seeks to outreach to their constituency opportunities that will enhance their knowledge and understanding of the impacts of their University; and

Whereas, it is the responsibility for the Executive Vice President’s Office to provide all UCI students with the opportunity to attend the conference; and

Whereas, the Executive Vice President’s plans to take 80 undergraduate students to the conference, making UC Irvine the largest delegation in the entire UC system; and

Whereas, Legislative Council has the funding means to fulfill the responsibility that both the Executive Vice President's Office and Legislative Council have to provide access to enriching experiences that will empower our student body; and

Whereas, the Executive Vice President’s Office has a shortage of $600 in the Student Lobby Conference Account needed to cover transportation costs in order to take all 80 students up to Sacramento; and

Let it be resolved, that Legislative Council aids in the outreach of the Student Lobby Conference in Sacramento with the Executive Vice President’s Office; and

Let it be resolved, that Legislative Council be named a partial Sponsor of this event, and has its name and logo attached to the digital fliers; and

Therefore let it be resolved, that Legislative Council approves the request of the Executive Vice Presidents Office for $600 in funds for the Student Lobby Conference, from the Legislative Council Account Unallocated account (
6501-7115) to the Student Lobby Conference Account (6409-7160).
