All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full. |

| Synopsis: Additional Funds for Welcome Week | |

| Whereas, the ASUCI Reserves account can be accessed for “Unanticipated one-time expenses that are necessary and vital to the organization” (Section 18; D, 1, b),
Whereas, the Welcome Week events are underfunded every year, and are dependent on sponsors,
Whereas, more sponsors are still needed to cover the costs of Welcome Week,
Whereas, the Office of Student Services is in charge of planning Welcome Week events, including: the World Record Breaking Event,
Whereas, we are still the current holders of the World’s Largest Dodgeball Game,
Whereas, the Office of Student Services is planning a new world record event to break: the World’s Largest Water Blaster Battle on Tuesday September 24th,
Whereas, the Center for Service in Action that put on large-scale volunteering events was consolidated three years ago,
Whereas, the Office of Administrative Affairs created Anteaters in Action, a volunteering commission, to assist in creating volunteering opportunities for students,
Whereas, the Office of Student Services is tasked with creating new events to enhance student life on campus,
Whereas, the Office of Student Services and the Office of Administrative Affairs have collaboratively been working on planning a day of service titled UC I Give Back,
Whereas, we have 1,000 open spots in 40 locations in the Santa Ana and Tustin Unified School Districts to volunteer on Wednesday September 25th,
Whereas, this is the first time we are planning this event,
Whereas, the scope of the volunteer event is larger than anticipated,
Whereas, it will be continued as an annual tradition,
Whereas, we need (in order of priority): transportation, food, t-shirts, for our 1,000 volunteers,
Whereas, this is the first time that ASUCI is putting on a volunteering event at this scale,
Whereas, we feel that these are vital and necessary events to help give UCI students pride while at the same time allow them to understand privilege,
Let it be resolved, that allocated funds will be used for the purpose mentioned, and Legislative Council will be presented with a report on how the money was used,
Let it further be resolved, that in the future if such volunteering event is accepted as an ASUCI tradition, it will be funded in the annual budget,
Let it finally be resolved, that Legislative Council approve the use of $15,000 for the Welcome Week events mentioned above: the World’s Largest Water Blaster Battle and UC I Give Back, and if there is excess money it will be reallocated into the ASUCI Reserves. |
