All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Allocation of Funds for Social Ecology Week

 Whereas, Legislative Council promises to facilitate interaction amongst students, faculty, and administration as well as to educate and inform the UC Irvine undergraduate community in an effort to enhance the quality of student life, and

Whereas, the Social Ecology Representative has collaborated with several faculty members including the Associate Dean of the School of Social Ecology, as well as other councilmembers, to plan a week of events in an effort to raise campus awareness of opportunities available to students both on campus and in the future and to organize an environment where Social Ecology students can interact with faculty, and

 Whereas, in the recent Social Ecology Town hall students specifically asked to be more informed on the topics that will be covered in the week of events

Whereas the event, named “Social Ecology: Thinking about the Future” will take place at Social Ecology I in room 112 on February 17th-19th, 2015 from 12:30 PM to 3 P.M., and

 

Whereas the event agenda is as follows:

 

Tuesday February 17th 12:30 PM - “Graduate School: things you need to know” will include a panel of faculty representative from various graduate programs including MPP, MAS, MURP, and PhD.

 

Wednesday February 18th 12:30 PM – “How to Get Involved in Research” will include speaker Said Shokair, Director of Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program, as well as presentations from Social Ecology Honors Research students.

 

Thursday February 19th 12:30 PM – “Get to Know Your Professors” will include catered lunch and will be attended by more than eight professors under the School of Social Ecology.

 

Whereas, to hold and promote the event, Social Ecology Representative, Negar Fatahi, is asking for authorization of an allocation of $350 to be spent.

Whereas, the money should be allocated in this manner: $150 to be spent on snacks and drinks for the “Graduate School: things you need to know” and “How to Get Involved in Research” days and $200 shall be spent on catering for about 50 people as well as the professors attending from Chick Fil A for “Get to Know Your Professors” day.

Now, let it be resolved by the Legislative Council of ASUCI that it authorizes the allocation of $350 out of Council Unallocated Account (7115-6501) to be used

Let it further be resolved that the unused portion of the funds will be returned to the Council Unallocated Account (7115-6501).
