REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE ASUCI SENATE 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the President of the Senate no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The President of the Senate reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Senate session if the President of the Senate feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Reallocation of Funds in Support of the ASUCI Mental Health Conference

 Whereas, ASUCI will host its third Mental Health Conference during May 6-7, 2017,

Whereas, the Mental Health Conference is a student-initiated, student-led conference that aims to explore mental health through a sociopolitical lens,

 

Whereas, the Mental Health Conference lists the intersection and mutual inclusivity of different identities, struggles, and risk factors as an objective,

Whereas, UCI and campus counseling centers across the nation have reduced efforts for outreach focusing on direct mental health services,

Whereas, peer-led conferences like these offset the lack of such outreach without placing additional strain on overworked clinical staff,

Whereas, the two-day event will create educational workshops and explore the spectrum of resources and outlets available to help cope with mental illness,

Whereas, the ASUCI Mental Health Conference is expecting over 350 students, staff, and community members to attend the conference this year,

Whereas, the ASUCI Mental Health Conference needs funding in order to accommodate breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Student Center room reservations, giveaways for attendees, program costs, logistical needs, and more,

Whereas, the Mental Health Conference had $48,000 in its account during the last academic year,

Whereas, only $26,000 from the $48,000 was spent from this account for the conference and the remaining $22,000 went into the ASUCI reserves at the end of the academic year,

Whereas, this event will help increase the visibility of both the ASUCI Senate and the ASUCI Mental Health Commission,

Therefore, let it be resolved, that $500.00 be allocated from the ASUCI Unallocated Account (#6501-7115) to the ASUCI Mental Health Commission Account (#6423-7085) to be used to reimburse part of the ASUCI Mental Health Conference, with any excess funds being returned to the Reserves account.

 

therefore let it be resolved, that $1,000 be allocated from the Conference/Travel account (#6418-7125) to the ASUCI Mental Health Conference Commission Account (#6423-7085) to be used for the programming costs of the 2017 Reclaim Mental Health Conference.
