Whereas, ASUCI currently owns the marquee located on the Student Center building since 2007 and,

Whereas, the marquee no longer works and can no longer be maintained and,

Whereas, the marquee of 2007 cost $199,987.13 ($237,919.12 in 2018) and,

Whereas, ASUCI would like to replace the old and very energy inefficient marquees with new high quality and energy efficient screens that are 2 feet bigger and,

Whereas, the cost for two of these new marquees is $102,000, of which, the Student Center has agreed to pay half of and,

Whereas, in return for paying half of the cost, ASUCI shall allow the Student Center to place their events on the screens as previously allowed and,

Whereas, the screens shall be used to publicize all ASUCI events (priority), clubs/organizations, and various campus departments as previously allowed and,

Whereas, ASUCI and Student Government & Student Media (SGSM) will jointly manage the screens through the Marketing office as done previously and,       

Whereas, ASUCI shall split a maintenance contract with the Student Center with a budget of approximately $5K per year as done previously (though this amount may be adjusted as needed based on the company contracted) and,

Whereas, ASUCI Bylaws Article XIX. Guidelines for the Expenditure of ASUCI Funds, Section D., Subsection 1 a) states that “purchase of equipment or technology that provides a long-term benefit to the organization” as a condition to access the ASUCI Reserves account and,

Whereas, ASUCI Bylaws Article XIX. Guidelines for the Expenditure of ASUCI Funds, Section D., Subsection 1 b) states that “unanticipated one-time expenses that are necessary and vital to the organization” as a condition to access the ASUCI Reserves account and,

Whereas, the Executive Officers of ASUCI are in unanimous agreement on this new screen and,

Whereas, ASUCI will own this asset and,        

Whereas, construction on replacing and installing a new screen will begin in the summer with its completion slated to occur in time for the 2018 Fall Quarter and,                             

Let it be resolved that the ASUCI Senate authorizes a monetary withdrawal from the ASUCI Reserves account #6501-7805, in strict accordance with the expenditures entailed below:

Marquee :  $51,000
