All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full. |

| Synopsis: Academic Freedom of Research Money | |

| Whereas, it is a student?s and a student?s researcher?s basic right to have academic freedom over the university?s decisions concerning research, and Whereas, academic freedom is about speech, not money, and Whereas, the purpose of academic freedom is to facilitate the university?s mission of searching for the truth, and Whereas it is the duty of Legislative Council to fight for student right?s concerning academic issues, as well as free speech, so that student?s voice can be heard, Therefore let it be resolved that the ASUCI Legislative Council support the principle of academic freedom at UC Irvine, and Let it further be resolved that ASUCI continue to support the UC system as a public institution, and not to be hindered by private influences that students do not see beneficial to the university, and Let it finally be resolved that ASUCI continue its commitment in creating a good name for the University of California, Irvine and its research commitments. |
