REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: ASUCI Support of Free Speech

Whereas the Free Speech Committee has been active since last school year and no tangible results have resulted; and

Whereas the Free Speech Committee this year has expanded its network and includes members from a spectrum of organizations; and

Whereas the Free Speech Committee, in conjunction with Assistant Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs Sally Peterson, have recognized the need for spaces in which students can exercise their free speech; and

Whereas the Free Speech Committee has identified various potential areas for the expansion of free speech here at UCI; and

Whereas all those areas fall under the jurisdiction of ASUCI and require financial support;

Therefore, Let it be resolved that ASUCI fully support the Free Speech Committee in its endeavors to expand free speech for the entire student population here at UCI. Free speech is a relevant and important issue for students and it deserves to be recognized and addressed by its student government representatives.

Let it finally be resolved that further discussion regarding the Free Speech Committee occur within ASUCI and that ASUCI support the future expansion of free speech at UCI.
