| Whereas the margin of victory for this years’ election for ASUCI Executive Vice President was by less than 1%, and Whereas the current ASUCI elections code prescribes runoff elections for ties, and Whereas, ASUCI elections cost money, and Whereas, a competitive election for a Legislative Council seat for ICS or Physical Sciences could easily result in a tie, and Whereas, the election could be resolved cheaply and easily through other means, Therefore, let it be resolved that the Rules Committee for the ASUCI Legislative Council propose that ASUCI strike all references for runoff elections from the ASUCI elections code and that Section “VIII. RUN-OFF ELECTIONS†be deleted and replaced with “VIII. RUN-OFF TIE BREAKER,†which shall provide that: “Executive Vice President shall arrange for a public one hand game of high-card, in which case Aces are equal to the number 1, between the tied candidates and that all rules and procedures should be given to the candidates before the final tie breaker.†Let it finally be resolved that this rule be put into effect when the contested race is between two candidates only. |
