All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Formation of a Restructuring Committee

Whereas, ASUCI is in need of a plan and vision for the future, and

Whereas, A Planning committee was suggested in the beginning of the year as a possible Action Agenda item, and

Whereas, Legislative Council has the constitutional power and authority to form committees, and

Whereas, A committee designated to the task of looking into potential ways in which ASUCI could be restructured and reformed with a set outline of their plan of action and proposed solutions will benefit ASUCI and the Students that it represents. Now, Therefore, let an ad hoc committee be formed with the following guidelines:

Charge: To evaluate and identify potential changes and improvements to processes, policies, and structure of the Associated Students UC Irvine particularly in the areas of Student Government structure, services, budgetary/fiscal issues, and staffing priorities. These steps are being taken to prepare for and improve the future functions, programs, and services in student government to assure the continued quality and growth of student government along with the campus as well as, address challenges and inadequacies that may currently exist. Composition:

(1) ASUCI Executive Officer
(1) ASUCI Legislative Council Member
(1) ASUCI Judicial Board Member
(1) ASUCI Executive Director/ASUCI Associate Executive Director
(1) ASUCI Commissioner/Chief of Staff
(1) UCI Dean of Students or Designate
(1) Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs or Designate
(1) Designate from the Cross Cultural Umbrella Council
(1) Designate from the Greek Presidents Council

This composition is designed to assure the broadest representation from campus stake holders in student government functions who have a working knowledge of ASUCI. Timeline/Plan Week 4-Week 9 (Fall Quarter) and Weeks 1-3 of Winter Quarter Draft Phase- The committee examines and evaluates student government and compiles its recommendations. Following the drafting of its recommendations, the Task Force will report its findings to Legislative Council.
At approximately Week 3 of Winter Quarter. Week 3 – Week 6 (Winter Quarter) Public Comment -Following this submission, the draft will be made available for public comments via web and campus media for approximately 3 weeks in which time the task force can respond to comment presented.
Week 6-Week 8 (Winter Quarter) Final Draft and Adoption- Following this period the task force will prepare its final recommendation with a deadline of Tuesday of Week 8 to ensure appropriate consideration by Legislative Council. Following the recommendations’ submission to Legislative Council, they will be considered and voted upon. Those requiring constitutional revision will be submitted to a vote of the student body during the Spring 2006 Election
