All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Creation of the College of Health Sciences Legislative Council Representative

Whereas, according to the ASUCI Constitution, under Section C, article 1…

 

Section C. The Legislative Council membership shall be apportioned in the following manner:

 

1. Elected Membership: Three –quarter (3/4) of the elected members shall be elected by and from the Academic Units (degree granting unit) and shall be apportioned on the basis of the enrollment of each Academic Unit. Each Academic Unit shall be entitled to at least one representative. Academic Unit apportionment shall be as follows; undergraduate student enrollment of less than 2,000 shall entitle the Academic Unit to one representative, undergraduate enrollment of 2,000 but less than 4000 shall entitle the Academic Unit two representatives and undergraduate enrollment of 4,000 or greater shall entitle the Academic Unit to three representatives. One-fourth (1/4) of the total number of eligible seats shall be elected by and from the undergraduate students at-large. The number of at-large members shall equal one-third (1/3) that of the total members representing the Academic Units. Membership may vary with the undergraduate enrollment in the Academic Units and by the possible addition of new Academic Units.

Whereas, according the ASUCI Constitution, under Section C, article 1, it specifically states, “Membership may vary with the undergraduate enrollment in the Academic Units and by the possible addition of new Academic Units,” and 

 

Whereas, a new Academic Unit, the College of Health Sciences has recently formed on our University, and

 

Whereas, according to the University of California, Irvine Headcounts by Academic Unit and Level from Spring of 2007, this new Academic Unit “College of Health Sciences” contains four undergraduate majors: Nursing Sciences, Public Health Policy, Public Health Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Sciences (Planned Fall 2008) currently unrepresented by a voting representative of Legislative Council, and

 

Whereas, according to the ASUCI Constitution, under Section C, article 1, it specifically states, “undergraduate student enrollment of less than 2,000 shall entitle the Academic Unit to one representative,” and

 

Whereas, new Academic Unit, the College of Health Sciences, has less the 2,000 students currently enrolled in its majors.

 

Therefore, let it be resolved that one new seat be created in Legislative Council, called the College of Health Sciences Representative, and

 

Let it further be resolved that this new seat be immediately viewed as vacant and available for appointment under Section 3, Letter E of the ASUCI Legislative Council By-Laws, and

 

Let it finally be resolved that this new seat be placed on the next appropriate ASUCI election.
