Whereas, AFSCME has planned a series of protests to take place at the 2008 UCI commecement ceremonies beginning with the Friday 5pm commencement for the school of social ecology, and

Whereas the stated purpose of these protests is to " [take] this opportunity to spread awareness about the unfair UC and make our cause known at a moment where UC thinks of it's workers the least", and

Whereas these protests are an extension of an ongoing labor dispute between the University Administration and AFSCME workers, and

Whereas these protests are not directed at an audience of concern to the the AFSCME workers (as students are not involved in contract bargaining), are directed against students who are supposedly "allies" of AFSCME in contract negotiations, are disruptive to the important ceremonies taking place, and serve no real purpose other than ruining an important moment for graduates and their families who have invested many years and tens of thousands of dollars in their college experience,

Let it be resolved that the Associated Students of UC Irvine do not support the methods, behavior or actions of the AFSCME workers, and

Let it further be resolved that the Associated Student Body will not stand "in solidarity" with a group who engages in behavior which disrupts moments of lasting importance to the student body.
