Whereas, ASUCI has experienced tremendous development over the course of the alst two years and it has become clear that the governing documents need to evolve to keep pace with this growth,

Whereas, Legislative Council is an independent branch with tremendous influence and capacity for advocacy work that would benefit from independent leadership elected by and from the Council,

Whereas, ASUCI makes numerous committee appointments every year and these representatives have a dramatic impact on various campus issues and would benefit from more direct oversight from ASUCI,

Whereas, Rules and Finance Committee could take a more proactive role in the governance of ASUCI by taking on new responsibilities,

Whereas, student government could increase accountability and transparency by publishing an annual agenda detailing its plan for the year,

Whereas, ASUCI Reserves represent a significant savings account for student government and it would be fiscally responsible to more clearly define the procedures by which these funds can be accessed.

Whereas, the following concerns could be addressed by creating a Speaker Pro Tempore, forming a Committee on Committees, revising the standing committee descriptions, requiring an annual Advocacy Agenda and clarifying the guidelines for expenditure of ASUCI funds,

Let it therefore be resolved that Legislative Council amend the ASUCI Bylaws to reflect the amendments proposed in the attached document,

Let it finally be resolved that the ASUCI Bylaws be immediately updated to reflect these changes.
