Whereas, when the task force responsible for creating the ASUCI Code of Ethics was discussing the potential ethical dilemmas that might arise within student government, it became clear that many of these rules would apply to candidates for elected office in ASUCI,

Whereas, there are some ethical principles that are unique to candidates,

Let it therefore be resolved that the ASUCI Elections Code be amended to include the following clauses:

IV. Amendments

Any amendments to the Elections Code, which are to be applied to an upcoming elections must be made prior to the publication of the Elections Packet. Any amendments made subsequent to this date will not be binding until the following elections cycle. The one exception to this rule shall be instances in which the Elections Code must be amended to remedy an act of impropriety on the part of the Elections Commission.

B. All candidates must adhere to the ASUCI Code of Ethics.

XIX. Campaigning and Publicity

B. All acts of voter intimidation are expressly prohibited.

XXI. Violations of Elections Regulations and Penalties

This purpose of the elections code is to protect the rights of the student body to make informed and independent decisions about candidates and other ballot measures, as well as to ensure that candidates have an equal opportunity to solicit votes. Therefore disqualifications should be reserved for instances where there are serious violations of student rights that impeded students ability to fairly or fully participate in the democratic process.

Subsection A is to be stricken from the document and items 1-4 under subsection A are to be moved under subsection B

Let it finally be resolved that the ASUCI Elections Code be updated immediately to reflect these changes.
