Synopsis: ASUCI’s Responsibilities and Expectations Regarding the Students of Color Conference
Date of Presentation: 05.25.10

Whereas, the Students of Color Conference (SOCC) is a very important social and cultural event for many students in the UC Irvine Community,

Whereas, this event provides an opportunity for students to dialogue about issues of diversity and social equality while collaborating with their peers from other University of California campuses,

Whereas, the Associated Students, University of California, Irvine (ASUCI) are the official representative of the UC Irvine campus to the University of California Student Association and are thereby responsible for representing UC Irvine to the SOCC planning committee,

Whereas, ASUCI works closely with those student organizations affiliated with the Cross Cultural Center in planning the UC Irvine delegation to SOCC and recruiting participants,

Whereas, it would be beneficial to both parties if their respective expectations and responsibilities were more clearly enumerated,

Let it therefore be resolved that ASUCI commits to uphold the following terms and conditions with regards to all future SOCCs,

The ASUCI Executive Vice President’s Office shall be responsible for planning the UCI delegation to SOCC and this entails publicizing the conference as soon as the event details are made public by UCSA, making registration applications available to online and/or in the ASUCI office at least two weeks prior to the official close of registration as determined by UCSA.

ASUCI will actively outreach to a diverse array of campus constituents, including but not limited to, the Cross Cultural Center, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center, Center for Service in Action, Ethnic Studies Departments, Dean of Students Office, fraternities and sororities and other campus organizations.

ASUCI and Umbrella Council shall designate at least one member of the Umbrella Council to serve as the planning liaison to ASUCI.

ASUCI will arrange transportation and accommodations for all members of the UC Irvine delegation who desire it.

ASUCI will establish an anonymous EEE survey after the conference to allow participants to share their feedback.

ASUCI shall have full discretion over the size and composition of the delegation while making a good faith effort to support the largest delegation that is financially feasible as determined by conference location, and the cost of registration, accommodation and transportation.

ASUCI reserves the right to charge attendees a fee for attending the conference, but this amount may not exceed twice the cost of registration as determined by UCSA and ASUCI will provide need based scholarships to those students who request assistance. Should an individual register for the conference and fail to attend, ASUCI reserves the right to keep the aforementioned fee.

All members of the UC Irvine delegation shall be required to adhere to the conference rules and regulations as determined by ASUCI.

Let it finally be resolved that ASUCI recognizes the value of the Students of Color Conference and affirms its desire to efficiently and collaboratively plan the UC Irvine delegation attempting to extend attendance opportunities to the greatest number of students.
