REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Opposed to Governor Edmund G. 'Jerry' Brown Jr. Budget Proposal

Whereas, on January 10, 2011, the Governor of California released a proposed budget for the 2011-12 fiscal year.

Whereas, from March 2011 to June 15, 2011 the proposed budget will go through Public Budget Hearings, Department of Finance May revision and must be passed with a 2/3 majority vote.

Whereas, Governor Edmund G.“Jerry” Brown Jr.  proposed a approximately $500 million cut to the University of California (UC).

Whereas,  November 19, 2009 the University of California Regents approved an 32% fee increase to be taken affect by 2011/2012 academic year.

Whereas, November 18, 2010 the University of California Regents approved an additional 8% fee increase.

Whereas, University of California Office of the President will determine how this proposed cut will affect the University of California, Irvine (UCI).

Whereas, a public institution, such as UCI, ought to be affordable, accessible and provide a quality education for all students.

Whereas, Governor Brown’s proposed budget may lead the UC to be funded primarily by Students rather than the State.

Let it be resolved, the Undergraduate Students of University of California, Irvine strongly oppose Governor Brown’s proposed $500 million cut to the UC.

Let it be further resolved, an open discussion among the Governor’s office, State Senators, State Assembly members, University of California Regents, UC Administration and UC Students is strongly encouraged to properly fund this public institution.
