REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Responding to the Asians in the Library Video

Whereas a university student created a public video named “Asians in the Library” and uploaded the video onto Youtube.com on March 13th, 2011, a video whose purpose was to address the general population regarding this individual’s opinions,

Whereas the individual displayed disrespect for the academic achievements of others,

Whereas the individual inappropriately mocked Asian languages during the video,

Whereas the individual flippantly cited the recent natural disaster in Japan as “the tsunami thing” and showed little sympathy towards the victims and their families in the video,

Whereas this individual presented cultural intolerance and denounced cultural diversity within the individual's university,

Therefore, let it be resolved that, while the ASUCI Legislative Council supports freedom of speech, the ASUCI Legislative Council condemns any act of discrimination or hate speech, and  

Let it be further resolved that, as the ASUCI Legislative Council believes that education, including maturation and better understanding social knowledge, is a primary priority in a university, the ASUCI Legislative Council discourages and condemns any form of personal threat and harassment issued to this individual.
