| Synopsis: By-Laws Amendment Regarding Judicial Board Meeting Time | |
| Date of Presentation: |
|
| Whereas, the ASUCI Judicial Board is requesting that the ASUCI By-Laws be amended to change the inconvenient time requirement for Judicial Board weekly meetings; Whereas, the current clause requiring Judicial Board meetings to be held “Wednesday after 5:00PM” is tremendously inconvenient to follow since it, in essence, requires members to keep their Wednesday evenings entirely free for the duration of their term, or risk forfeiting their office; Whereas, this requirement has hurt both member recruitment and member retention and has caused Mazamir Yousefi, a newly-appointed Judicial Board member in April 2011, to have to resign due to a conflict in her schedule and the intransigence of Judicial Board meeting times; Whereas, having consulted the ASUCI Executive Director, the following By-Laws amendment was decided to be the best way to solve this problem; Let it therefore be resolved that the ASUCI By-Laws be amended as follows and go into effect at the beginning of the Fall 2011 academic quarter: Article XVI, Section A, Clause 2: 2. A Judicial Board member shall attend weekly meetings to review all pending legislation and other business. Meetings shall be held each Wednesday after 5:00PM, unless a different time is chosen by the Judicial Board Chair and approved by a majority vote of the Judicial Board. Any Judicial Board member absent from three (3) weekly meetings per quarter shall be subject to the automatic forfeiture of the office. An appeal may be made to the Legislative Council, which may exercise the right to reinstate a Judicial Board member upon a two-thirds (2/3) affirmative vote of the voting members present. |
