Whereas, ad hoc committees have been created by the Legislative Council to address various issues affecting the students,

Whereas, the Legislative Council currently has not addressed the issues of sustainability and environmental conservation on campus in an efficient manner,

Whereas, the implementation of sustainability on campus is essentially dealing with issues such as promoting efficient energy use in dormitory, minimizing pollution from cafeteria and office space, and encouraging recycling. And the implementation of environmental conservancy on campus is dealing with issues such as planting native species of vegetation, regulating hydrological run-off, and minimizing soil damages due to artificial compounds for horticultural purposes.

Whereas, Article III, Section B, Part 10 of the ASUCI Constitution states that the Legislative Council has the authority to form standing and ad hoc committees,

Therefore, let it be resolved that an ad hoc committee to address various environmental issues, chaired by Jack Pan, be created to work with Student Housing, UCI Hospitality & Dining Services, OIT, UCI Environmental Planning & Sustainability, Legislative Council standing and ad hoc committees, TGIF, and UCI Environmental Coalition to deal with various environmental issues affecting the students and to improve the legislative council’s involvement in sustainability.

Let it further be resolved that this committee be named the “Sustainability & Environmental Conservancy Committee.”
