Whereas it is the duty of Legislative Council and the Office of the Executive Vice-President to serve as advocates for the student body,

Whereas higher education has been facing growing challenges of accessibility, affordability and quality, creating great concern and frustration across the student population,

Whereas the UC Board of Regents play an instrumental role in deciding UC policies, including the level of tuition fees,

Whereas the Student Regent and the Student Regent Designate are important and prestigious voices representing students on the UC Board of Regents

Whereas the Office of the Executive Vice-President has cultivated a fruitful relationship of cooperation and partnership with the UC Student Regent Alfredo Mireles and UC Student Regent Designate Jonathan Stein,

Whereas the UCI student population have expressed, through various avenues like Legislative Council Public Comment and New University articles, a desire for increased discussion on budget issues and increased advocacy and activism by ASUCI,

Whereas the Office of the Executive Vice-President has invited the Student Regent and the Student Regent designate to visit the Irvine campus on November 8th, 2011

Let it be resolved that the November 8^th, 2011 Legislative Council meeting be amended from its regular agenda, and be changed to a “UC Regent Townhall” sponsored by the Office of the Executive Vice-President and Legislative Council,

Let it be further resolved that the Legislative Council meeting location be changed from Woods Cove to Doheny Beach AB,

Let it further be resolved that the Legislative Council meeting time be changed from 5pm to 7pm to 6pm to 7:30pm,

Let it finally be resolved that in the presence of important public figures, Legislative Council members and Executive Officers will commit to attend the event and help in its planning and organization.
