Item Number: 51 Legislation Number (B: Bill, R: Resolution): R47-42
Author:   Vikram Nayudu   Second:  Charlyn Arellano
Synopsis: ASUCI Referendum
Date of Presentation: January 31, 2012

Whereas, the ASUCI fee supporting student services has remained static for more than 15 years at $54 per year, and

Whereas, the rate of inflation since 1997 according to the Consumer Price Index has been 30%, leaving real dollars available for student services shrinking on a yearly basis, and

Whereas, the average Associated Student fee across all UC schools is $96.34, with the UC Irvine Associated Students being one of the lowest income/lowest budget association, and

Whereas, as the decrease of state support for higher education has forced the University of California to make dramatic cuts which have been largely directed toward student support services, decreasing the quality of student life at all UC campuses, and

Whereas, an increase in operational funding to the Associated Students of UC Irvine would allow for greater student support, services and programming, particularly as the State Legislature and the University of California continue to privatize the cost of UC education, and

Let it be resolved that the attached initiative be submitted to a vote of the undergraduate student body in the ASUCI Spring 2012 election (See attached for ballot language and guidelines).
