All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: ASUCI Legislative Council Humanities Cuts Passive Program Support

Whereas there where was a "Needs Attention" memo sent to the School of Humanities on November 15, 2011,

Whereas this memo targets African American Studies, Asian American Studies, Women’s Studies, Comparative Literature, East Asian Languages and Literatures, French and Italian, and German, as well as the Chicana/o- Latina/o Studies Department in the School of Social Sciences,

Whereas the ASUCI Legislative Council School of Humanities Representatives Neil Bautista and Brian Dinh will be proposing a legislation on Tuesday, February 7th 2012 asking council to support the fight against the departmental cuts within the School of Humanities,

Whereas ASUCI Legislative Council's Advocacy Committee will be putting together a passive program titled "Blinded by the Humanities Cuts" to raise awareness of the cuts,

Whereas the program will ask students to draw "X"'s on their eyelids to represent their support for the fight against the cuts,

Whereas the program will take place on campus on Monday, February 6th to Tuesday, February 7th, 2012 in conjunction with the presentation of the School of Humanities Representatives' legislation,

Whereas while the program is headed by the Advocacy Committee, further support from Council as a whole will show that we as a council stand as a united front,

Therefore let it be resolved that ASUCI Legislative Council will be a sponsor of the passive event in publications such as the event's Facebook event page in order to raise awareness of the cuts and the presentation of the legislation.
