REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Anteaters in Action Commission
Date of Presentation: March 12, 2012
 

Whereas the Center for Service in Action will lose its funds at the end of the 2011-2012 academic year,

Whereas ASUCI currently does not offer community service opportunities or programs for the students,

Whereas other university student governments, such as UCSB, UCLA and UCSD have an established community service commission,

Whereas ASUCI will establish its own community service commission called “Anteaters in Action” which will be housed under the Office of Administrative Affairs,

Whereas the purpose of the commission will be to provide the UCI community with a variety of volunteer opportunities,

Whereas the commission will oversee 7 outreach programs, coordinate on and off campus volunteer opportunities in and around Orange County and organize alternative break trips,

Whereas the commission will consist of 1 Commissioner, 1 Assistant Commissioner, 7 Project Directors, 1 Special Events Director, 1 Alternative Break Director and 1 Publicity Director, 

Whereas the commission will strive to connect UCI students to the community in a meaningful way and to promote the value of public service,

Let it be resolved that ASUCI Office of Administrative Affairs will establish the Anteaters in Action Commission starting Spring Quarter 2012.
