Date of Presentation: March 15, 2012

Whereas, many UC Administrators have been awarded with excessive salary raises[1], and

Whereas, multiple fee increases has been imposed on students throughout the past few years[2], and

Whereas, it has been projected that fees will continue to increase for students if state funding continues to digress[3], and

Whereas, Mark Yudof defended the salary increases as a necessary means to retain and attract talent[4], and

Whereas, students should not be asked to pay higher fees in order to fund these outrageous salaries, and

Whereas, Senate Bill 1368 would protect students and taxpayers from continuing to bear the cost of outrageous state salaries, and

Whereas, Senate Bill 1368 states that it would limit the annual salary of any state employee from exceeding that of the Governors[5], and

Whereas, the current Governor’s annual salary is $173, 987[6], and

Whereas, this bill would cap compensation starting January 1, 2013, and

Whereas, the bill also recommends that the UC Regents limit the salaries of UC employees to that of the Governors[7], and

Whereas, individuals should enter the public sector in order to serve the public, and not to profit from it,

Therefore let it be resolved that ASUCI Legislative Council is in support of Senate Bill 1368, which would prohibit state employees salaries from exceeding that of the Governors.
