All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: ASUCI Legislative Council's Support for the Student Life and Leadership's "Becoming a Ctalyst for Change" Speaker Event

Whereas the Office of Student Life and Leadership (formerly known as the Office of the Dean of Students) is dedicated to advocating student affairs, leadership development and community involvement,

Whereas ASUCI Legislative Council also is rooted in the values of serving our constituents, celebrating the success of UCI students and supporting events that aim to encourage student life and positive community environment,

Whereas the Office of Student Life and Leadership is hosting a series of speaker events that advocate student affiars and UCI community growth and wellness,

Whereas the upcoming May 16th SLL Speaker event--"Becoming a Catalyst for Change" by Erin Gruwell is the perfect example of positively advocating students' engagement in the community through the inspiring story of the "Freedom Writer,"

Whereas the associate Dean of Students is seeking possible collaboration, sponsorship or publicity spport from ASUCI,

Whereas the Office of Student Life and Leadership has already handed out fliers to publicize its Speaker Series,

Whereas, upon my conversation with the associate Dean of Students, the associate Dean would much appreciate official online publicity of the event by ASUCI,

Let it be resolved that ASUCI Legislative Council fully supports the Office of Student Life and Leadership's Erin Gruwell Speaker Series event, and

Let it further be resolved that ASUCI Legislative Council will encourage UCI students to RSVP to the event online at www.studentlife.uci.edu/programs/speaker by Monday, May 14th.
