REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Current State of LARC Forum January 22nd

Whereas it is the duty of Legislative Council and the Office of the President to serve as advocates for the student body,

Whereas UCI Administration has made decisions to cut, consolidate or change programs and resources in the face of budgetary challenges without student input,

Whereas the Administrative decision to cut funding from the Learning Academic Resource Center (LARC) created great concern and frustration amongst the student body last year,

Whereas LARC is an academic support unit within the Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) that provides educational and tutoring assistance to UCI undergraduates,

Whereas LARC has adjusted its tutoring and pedagogy model to Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) sessions for a variety of courses since last year’s budget cut,

Whereas the UCI student population still lacks transparency about the changes to the LARC tutoring program,

Whereas the Office of the President has cultivated a cooperative relationship with the DUE Division,

Whereas the Office of the President has organized an informative event regarding LARC with DUE for the campus on January 22nd, 2013,

Let it be resolved that the January 22nd, 2013 Legislative Council meeting be amended from its regular agenda, and be changed to a “Current State of LARC Forum” sponsored by the Office of the President and Legislative Council,

Let it be further resolved that Legislative Council Members will attend the “Current State of LARC Forum” in Balboa Island A, Student Center from 5-6 PM,

Let it be further resolved that Legislative Council will resume back to the scheduled Legislative Council meeting from 6-7pm,

Let it finally be resolved that in the presence of important administration from DUE, Legislative Council members and Executive Officers will commit to attending the event and publicizing the event to their constituents.
