Whereas it is the duty of Legislative Council and the Office of the President to serve as advocates for the student body,

Whereas the state of California has divested from public higher education for more than a decade,

Whereas UC Irvine and the entire UC system has struggled to maintain its quality, affordability and accessibility for thousands of students,

Whereas the instability of UC Irvine’s budget situation has manifested into the consolidation and cuts of many classes, programs and resources,

Whereas Administration often unilaterally makes decisions on the budget without shared governance with the larger student body,

Whereas Proposition 30 passed in November and Governor Brown’s budget has been recently released,,

Whereas the UCI student population still lacks transparency about UC Irvine’s current budget situation post Prop 30 and the Governor’s budget release,

Whereas the Office of the President has cultivated a cooperative relationship with the Vice Chancellor of Planning and Budget, Meredith Michaels,

Whereas the Office of the President has organized an informative budget update forum for the campus on January 29^th, 2013,

Let it be resolved that the January 29^th, 2013 Legislative Council meeting be amended from its regular agenda, and use the first 30 minutes for the “Budget Update Forum” sponsored by the Office of the President and Legislative Council,

Let it be further resolved that Legislative Council Members will attend the “Budget Update Forum” in Doheny Beach AB, Student Center from 4-5:30 PM,

Let it be further resolved that Legislative Council will resume back to the scheduled Legislative Council meeting from 5:30-7 pm,

Let it finally be resolved that in the presence of important administration from Planning & Budget, Legislative Council members and Executive Officers will commit to attending the event and publicizing the event to their constituents.
