Whereas the UC Irvine student body is a diverse and open student body that is made up of all different kinds of students with unique experiences, attitudes, and affiliations,
Whereas student organizations act as the heart of campus involvement and foster a strong senses of community and belonging among their members and promote active service among their members,
Whereas student organizations can drive student involvement on campus and act as an important foundation for their members to understand values such as (but not limited to) service, leadership, learning, and community,
Whereas student organizations host a multitude of events on campus and help drive student life and purpose,
Whereas many student organizations, registered under the Office of Student Life and Leadership, apply for funding to subsidize their events through ASUCI's Student Program Funding Board (SPFB),
Whereas currently the SPFB By-laws allocate for 9 members to sit on the board, these being: the ASUCI President (or other Executive Board member), the 4 Chairs of the standing committees on ASUCI Legislative Council, a Cross Cultural Center Representative, and 3 "At-Large" members selected by the board,
Whereas it is important for SPFB to be equally representative to the student body it serves, which includes having board members that represent significant populations on campus,
Whereas the UCI Greek community makes up roughly 10% of the UCI student body and brings together individuals from all different backgrounds and perspectives,
Whereas the UCI Greek community has registered Greek chapters under the Office of Student Life and Leadership and thus are legible to seek out funding to subsidize their events that foster campus life and community,
Whereas the UCI Greek community hosts various events on campus through its 15 IFC affiliated collegiate Fraternities, 12 Panhellenic collegiate Sororities, and 22 Multicultural Fraternity and Sororities that benefit various charity and community device organizations,
Whereas SPFB can serve as a crucial funding service for these organizations that can help offset costs of hosting these events and thus leave more capital available to give to these beneficiary groups,
Whereas all of these events are open to the UCI student body at large and community at large and thus meet SPFB By-laws of inclusiveness and ensuring that SPFB funds are used for UCI related activities,
Whereas currently there is no Greek Representative who sits on SPFB and thus a major population of the UCI student body is left unrepresented on a crucial organ of ASUCI,
Whereas ASUCI seeks to represent its student body and ensuring that its affiliates are representative of it as such,
Let it therefore be resolved that an Amendment be made to the SPFB By-Laws to Section C: Membership that adds a UCI Greek Life Representative to SPFB funding board,
Let it further be resolved that a new "Sub-Section A: Selection of Members" be created under Section C "Membership" that shall stipulate the selection process of the UCI Greek Life Representative,
Let it further be resolved that the new Sub-Section A shall follow Section C "Membership" and shall precede Section D "Requirements", for the purpose of the organization and amendment to the By-Laws of the SPFB,
Let it further be resolved that the governing greek councils, the Interfraternity Council, the Multicultural Greek Council, and Panhellenic Association collectively confer, discuss, and nominate a Greek Representative to be sent to be approved by the SPFB Board to act as the Greek Representative on the Board,
Let it further be resolved that their tenure, power, and privileges be the same as any other Board member, not exceeding their rights or impeding it and shall abide by Section D "Requirements"
Let it further be resolved that the UCI Greek Life Representative be not a member of any of the governing councils that shall nominate the representative and shall be a member of a Chapter that is registered as an official organization under the Office of Student Life and Leadership, this shall be reflected in the new Sub-Section A: Selection of Members
