REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Speaker Pro Tempore Line of Succession

Whereas the Speaker Pro Tempore is essential for the operation of the legislative council

Whereas Speaker Pro Tempore has nine essential job duties as prescribed by the ASUCI by-Laws Article III. MEMBERSHIP PROVISIONS, Section B. Council Provisions, Subsection 1, point a, 1-9

Whereas the ASUCI Legislative Council By-Laws do not contain a line of succession for the position of Speaker Pro Tempore  

Whereas continuity is important in the legislative process and all chairs as stipulated in the by-laws will be in the line of succession (not including the vice chair fulfilling chair duties).

Let it be resolved the position of the Speaker Pro Tempore should have a line of succession in case of emergencies

Let it further be resolved that the those who undertake the role of Speaker Pro Tempore assume those powers until the elected speaker or officer higher in the line of succession establishes their presence

Let it be further resolved that ASUCI Legislative Council create a By-Law amendment under Article III. MEMBERSHIP PROVISIONS, Section B. Council Provisions, Subsection 1, point b stating the following

If in the event that the ASUCI Legislative Council Speaker Pro Tempore does not attend the ASUCI Legislative Council meeting a line of succession will enact the following officers to fill the position, 1) Chair of the Finance Committee, 2) Chair of the Advocacy Committee, 3) Chair of the Public Information Committee

 

Let it be finally resolved that the line of succession will prevent legislative delays by maintaining continuity with the position of Speaker Pro Tempore by placing officers elected within the line of succession.
