Whereas, video recordings of actual events serve as a powerful training tool and may contribute to reduction in overall auto claims from UC Irvine Anteater Express; and

Whereas, the DriveCam system allows Anteater Express supervisors to actively manage driving behaviors and address poor or dangerous driving behaviors before they lead to an accident and/or injury; and

Whereas, the absence of an accident/event can exonerate client from false claims; and

Whereas, in the event a bus driver makes an evasive maneuver to avoid a collision and passengers are injured as a result, video from DriveCam of the event will exculpate the driver and possibly identify the other party that caused the incident; and

Whereas, signage can be provided inside the bus to disclose to passengers that they are being monitored by video surveillance to address privacy concerns; and

Whereas, DriveCam has gained the support from the Office of Administrative Affairs of ASUCI; and

Whereas, DriveCam’s clients, such as the University of California, San Diego’s Transit Department, has not had any complaints about the DriveCam system from their passengers;

Let it be resolved that ASUCI supports the installation of DriveCam systems on all UC Irvine Anteater Express buses.
