All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: ASUCI Endorsement of SOAR

 Whereas, Associated Students at UC Irvine (ASUCI) supports programs and centers that benefit and assist students on campus; and,

Whereas, the Student Outreach and Retention (SOAR) Center at UC Irvine benefits support and enrich the academic, personal, and social experiences of students attending the University of California, Irvine; and,

Whereas, SOAR is committed to the outreach, retention, and successful graduation of every undergraduate student at UC Irvine; and,

Whereas, SOAR is a space for students to study, network, and engage in the planning and implementation of student initiated programs; and,

Whereas, SOAR serves as a bridge between students and the information, resources, and services that contribute to their success; and,

Whereas, SOAR fosters student empowerment and leadership through academic, social, and wellness programming; and,

Whereas, SOAR advises and supports student initiated academic preparation programs for under-represented students; and,

Whereas, SOAR engages and encourages partnerships and collaborations across the UCI campus; and,

Whereas, SOAR was established at UC Irvine in Fall 2011; and,

Whereas, SOAR Center is currently running on temporary funds provided by Vice Chancellor Student Affairs Office until the summer of 2016; and,

Whereas, SOAR has been proven to be a great and liable resource to the undergraduate student population on campus ever since its establishment and received countless positive feedbacks from students; and,

Whereas, SOAR sponsors many programs that enhance student academics and college experiences, such as the Student Ambassador program and the Antleader Mentorship Program (AMP) [AMP is a program that is also co-sponsored by ASUCI]; and,

Whereas, SOAR attempted to acquire additional funding from the undergraduate student population in the Spring 2013 election through the SOAR funding referendum on the Spring 2013 ballot; and,

Whereas, the SOAR funding referendum ballot in the Spring 2013 elections obtained support from the majority of the undergraduate student body who voted, but failed to reach quorum by 55 votes; and,

Whereas, it is the duty of ASUCI to protect and support resources that benefit and support students; and,

Whereas, ASUCI endorsed the SOAR funding initiative last year during the Spring 2013 campaign;

Let it be resolved that, ASUCI acknowledges SOAR center as a crucial campus resource to the undergraduate student body; and,

Let it be further resolved that, ASUCI endorses SOAR in its campaign to acquire additional funding from the undergraduate student body; and,

Let it be further resolved that, ASUCI Legislative Council, as well as all of the executive offices of ASUCI hereby declare their support and endorsement of the SOAR initiative; and,

Let it be further resolved that, these offices shall allocate supplies and taskforce to support the SOAR funding referendum campaign during the spring 2014 elections; and,

Let it be further resolved that, ASUCI Legislative Council and each executive office will have one representative in charge of leading the allocation of these supplies and taskforce.

Let it be finally resolved that, ASUCI Legislative Council sends copies of this legislation to University of California President Janet Napolitano, UC Irvine Chancellor Michael Drake, KUCI 88.9FM, The Orange County Register, The New University, and The Los Angeles Times.
