REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: San Diego Wildfire Relief Act

Whereas, the Associated Students of UC Irvine (ASUCI) is a student body that supports and cares about communities; and,

 

Whereas, the San Diego County of California currently faces devastations and destructions from multiple wildfires that are spread out across the county as of May 15th, 2014; and,

 

Whereas, tens of thousands are being evacuated from the suburban areas of San Diego as nine wildfires scorch San Diego County as of May 15th, 2014; and,

 

Whereas, multiple schools are being closed down due to the destructions from the fire; and,

 

Whereas, Advanced Placement tests that are scheduled in Del Mar fairgrounds are postponed until Saturday, May 24th, and Sunday, May 25th; and,

 

Whereas, wildfires occurred in areas near San Marcos, Carlsbad, Camp Pendleton, Bonsall, Fallbrook, Oceanside, and Bernado of the San Diego County; and,

 

Whereas, over 10,000 acres of land have been burned from these wildfires; and,

 

Whereas, California Governor Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency to free up resources to support the relief effort in San Diego; and,

 

Whereas, climate began to swift in the San Diego County due to the wildfires, including the formation of “flamnados,” and,

 

Whereas, communities surrounding San Diego County had sent support and supplies to help the relief effort; and,

 

Let it be resolved that, ASUCI Legislative Council sends our most sincere condolences to the people who are impacted by the San Diego wildfires; and,

 

Let it be further resolved that, ASUCI Legislative Council urges the UC Irvine community to participate in relief support for the people who are impacted by this disaster; and,

 

Let it be finally resolved that copies of this resolution be sent to all the undergraduate student associations in the University of California; Governor Jerry Brown; and The New University.
