REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: CARE Expansion Resolution

Whereas, the UC CARE system aids victims of sexual assault and/or abuse and, Whereas, every UC is required to have a CARE on campus and,

Whereas, in order to better serve the needs of these people, there are multiple areas to help CARE help students and,

Whereas, the campus task force recommendation of one advocate per UC is not enough to adequately cover all facets of CARE and,

Whereas, federal funds allocated for Title IX services are not used in CARE and,

Let it be resolved that ASUCI recognizes and appreciates the efforts of the President’s Task Force in setting up physical and technological infrastructure for responding to sexual violence and assault and, Let it be resolved that ASUCI strongly calls for additional funding to be allocated to CARE and,

Let it be resolved that ASUCI recommends a minimum of 3 full time staff, with one member for each area of advocacy, prevention, and administration within CARE and,

Let it further be resolved that ASUCI backs the creation of programs for the prevention of sexual violence in order to stop behaviors before such acts can harm any individual and,

Let it further be resolved that ASUCI endorses employing additional therapists in the counseling center to allow quality support for victims of sexual assault and a certified trauma clinician for long term therapy support and,

Let it further be resolved that ASUCI requests better coordination and communication between CARE, the Counseling Center of the UCs (i.e UCLA CAPS, UCI Counseling Center), and law enforcement in the form, for example, of increased joint training programs and liaisons to quickly work together on cases that require the services of any of the three and,

Let if further be resolved that ASUCI advocates for adding representatives from the counseling center and from graduate education to the UC Task Force, which will increase the effectiveness of the task force in addressing additional areas and,

Let if finally be resolved that a copy of this resolution shall be sent to the following: Barbara Boxer, California US Senator; Janet Napolitano, University of California President; Howard Gillman, University of California, Irvine Chancellor, Rameen Talesh, Dean of Students and Assistant Vice Chancellor, Student Life and Leadership; Thomas A. Parham, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs; and Mandy Mount, UCI CARE Director.
