All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full. |

Drafted by Petra de la Cruz Whereas, according to UCI campus data, more than 58 percent of students that enrolled in fall of 2013 were the first in their families to attend college.
Whereas, first generation students come from different backgrounds and have different ideas that shape their first college experience.
Whereas, there is a need for a space in ASUCI where first generation students can voice their concerns and needs to the institution.
Whereas, because first generation students encompasses African- American students, Chicano/a students, undocumented students and other intersectional identities, there is a need to create a committee where their needs are represented in the legislative council.
Whereas, ASUCI has a duty to ensure that first generation students have the tools and resources needed to be successful on this campus
Whereas, it is essential that ASUCI is directly informed of the needs of first generation and non-traditional students may have and thus, there is a need for a first generation committee within the legislative council branch.
Whereas, the first generation committee would be composed of first generation students, ASUCI officials, and legislative council members.
Let it Be Resolved, that ASUCI Legislative Council will form the committee for First Generation and Non-Traditional students to service the needs of First Generation and Non-Traditional students, and
Let it further be resolved, that the composition of this committee will be determined by the Advocacy Committee in regards to the exact number of seats and participants, and
Let it be resolved that the First Generation and Non-Traditional Student Committee is empowered to select new members for the new academic year and explore more avenues to reach out and support the First Generation and Non-Traditional student community at UCI, and
Let it further be resolved that the Legislative Council of 2015-16 will appoint two Council members per ASUCI policy, by legislation, and
Let it finally be resolved that following the rules stated under ASUCI Bylaws, Article XIV, Section A, the progress of the First Generation and Non-Traditional Student Committee will be reviewed at the end of the Spring Quarter 2016 to discuss its annual renewal.
