REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: By-Laws Amendment: Seat allocation

Whereas the school of Health Sciences is a defunct school and has been separated into three new constituencies, and

Wheras these constituencies currently do not have representation on ASUCI Legislative Council, and have not for the last two years, and

Whereas it is the responsibility of ASUCI to ensure all students have a voice in student government, and

Whereas it is the responsibility of the Rules Committee as per the By-Laws to "Evaluating UCI's enrollment data for the Fall during each Winter quarter and adjusting the distribution of seats as necessary prior to the commencement of the Spring Elections, and 

Whereas restricting seat re-allocations to one quarter per year does not allow for seats to be adjusted prior to Fall elections, and

Whereas restriction seat re-allocation to one quarter per year does not allow for seats to be re-adjusted based on enrollment data from previous years in a prompt manner, 

Let it be resolved that the ASUCI Legislative Council By-Laws be amended in the following way in section XI-A-1-j, from:

  • Evaluating UCI's enrollment data for the Fall during each Winter quarter and adjusting the distribution of seats as necessary prior to the commencement of the Spring Elections

to:

  • Evaluating UCI's enrollment data at least once annually, and adjusting the distribution of seats on Legislative Council as necessary.
