| Synopsis: A Resolution for the Creation of an International Center Committee | |
| Date of Presentation: |
|
| Whereas, international students are a significant portion of the undergraduate population that come from all parts of the world and bring varied and diverse perspectives to campus,
Whereas, international students need to remain engaged on issues happening on campus and within student government to ensure that participation among this population occurs,
Whereas, it is critical that International students have a multitude of spaces to participate in shared student governance of ASUCI and have an availability to get resources from student government,
Whereas, due to the demographic population of International students relative to the amount of non-International students it is fairly common for ASUCI to allow for critical needs for international students to pass by,
Whereas, ASUCI has a duty to ensure that international students are receiving the resources necessary to be successful on campus,
Whereas, it is important that ASUCI also directly remains informed as to what the needs of international students are and thus develops a committee to be able to facilitate that information between the two parties,
Whereas, the International Center has shown interest in working with ASUCI in developing this committee that would be composed of both international students, professional staff from the international center, ASUCI officials, and Legislative Council members,
Wheres, this committee can help serve the interest of international students by allowing immediate and dedicated spaces to commit such panning to ensure that a measure of efficacy reaches the international student population,
Therefore Let it Be Resolved, that ASUCI Legislative Council creates an Ad Hoc committee for international students paired with the International Center to service the needs of international students,
Let it further be resolved, that the composition of this committee will be determined by the Rules Committee in regards to the exact number of seats and participants upon the advice of student representatives of the International Center.
Let it further be resolved that the ASUCI Legislative Council will revisit this legislation by the end of Spring Quarter 2015 in order to facilitate discussion on a renewal process for this Ad Hoc Committee.
