Synopsis: Tuition Increase
Date of Presentation: November 13th, 2014

Whereas, despite the improving economy and positive California state budget outlook, education budgets have continued to decrease

Whereas the fees per year for undergraduate California resident students has more than doubled in the past ten years

Whereas, the sudden spikes in tuition levels are the result of declining state support.

Whereas, UC president Janet Napolitano's new plan for tuition calls for a 5 percent increase in tuition annually for five years

Whereas,  UC president Janet Napolitano's plan would only work provided that the state maintains its current investment commitment

Whereas, it is the states responsibility to fund their students education

Whereas, an increase in tuition would only strain California students

Let it be resolved that ASUCI Legislative Council condemns the plan proposed by the UC president to increase tuition.
