All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full. |

| Synopsis: Free Clinic Project at UC Irvine | |

| Whereas the Free Clinic Project at UCI is headed by Wei Kuo who is currently the only chair member of the executive board. Whereas the Free Clinic Project will provide quality patient centered health care for the underserved community within Orange County, with an emphasis on educating future healthcare professionals and increasing awareness of the health care disparity through continual research. And whereas clinical services will be offered to the underserved, predominantly Asian population of Garden Grove where no undergraduate and medical student-run, teaching, free clinics exist. Whereas there are other clinic projects on campus that provides clinical services to areas in Southern California. And whereas the Free Clinic Project also offers clinical services to areas but is unique in offering education for all undergraduates, medical students, community, students and health care providers. Whereas it will be a focus of the Free Clinic Project to welcome all undergraduate students an opportunity to participate and learn as oppose to solely running a clinic. And whereas mentorship programs with doctors and students, workshops on clinical services, and guest speakers on clinical affairs will be hosted on campus for the purposes of involving all undergraduates. Whereas the services provide include but are not limited to primary care, preventive services, referrals, health education, and specialty days, excluding services for children and pregnant women. Children and pregnant women qualify for free government insurance regardless of income or status. Whereas the services will be provided through the undergraduate and medical student run clinic under the supervision of a medical director only for those who do not have insurance. Whereas the Free Clinic Project is fully operational and with all necessary full time staff participating. Therefore ASUCI Legislative Council support will be an added vestige of recognition that will foster the growth of the Free Clinic Project. Therefore, let it be resolved that ASUCI fully recognize the Free Clinic Project and support the actions the project has committed to. Let it further be resolved that ASUCI Legislative Council follow the development of the Free Clinic Project through contact with Wei Kuo. And let it further be resolved that ASUCI Legislative Council recognizes the need for student led initiatives that will benefit the community through clinical services And let it finally be resolved that ASUCI Legislative open a dialogue between Wei Kuo and the Executive members of ASUCI to discuss the integration and cooperation of the program with ASUCI. |
