Synopsis: Resolution to the Student Center and Event Services Regarding Venue Booking
Date of Presentation: December 2nd, 2014

Whereas the Student Center and Event Services department on campus has recently implemented changes to its infrastructure, regarding room and venue reservations; and

Whereas these changes were made as an attempt to logistically improve the reservation process; and

Whereas the transition into these changes has resulted in numerous conflicts such as, an inability for organizations to reserve spaces, an unprecedented number of booking errors (double bookings), and confusion amongst student organization leaders regarding the reservation process as a whole; and

Whereas the UC Irvine Student Center and its operations are primarily funded by student fees; and

Whereas neither student leaders nor student organizations were consulted before these changes were implemented; and

Whereas Associated Students Legislative Council serves as a representative body within student government and is tasked with representing the voices and concerns of the student population; and

Let it be resolved therefore that ASUCI Legislative Council condemns the implementation of such a reservation system without student consultation; and

Let it further be resolved that ASUCI Legislative Council disapproves of the ineffective management of the booking process and has found reason to doubt the effectiveness of the new system; and

Let it finally be resolved that ASUCI Legislative Council charges Student Center and Event Services to hold open discussions with students regarding the new system, in an effort to increase transparency as well as to shed clarity on the process.
