| Synopsis: Undergraduate Student Programming Funding Policy (SPFB Guidelines) Amendments | |
| Date of Presentation: |
|
| Whereas, the current Undergraduate Student Programming Funding Policy, hereinafter referred to as the as SPFB Guidelines, “[defines] the procedures and guidelines for funding or in part undergraduate organizations’ programs” [1 - SPFB Guidelines, Purpose] and are the guidelines as to which the Student Programming Funding Board, hereinafter referred to as SPFB, should abide by, and Whereas, in the SPFB Guidelines, Student Programming Funding Board, Subsection C (Membership) states that, “The Board shall consist of Nine (9) members made up as follows: … 1) Cross Cultural Center member appointed by a majority of the five umbrella organization boards” [1], and
Whereas, in the SPFB Guidelines, Student Programming Funding Board, Subsection D (Requirements) states that, “The Cross Cultural Center member must be selected by the end of Week 5 of the new academic year” [1], and
Whereas, in the event that a previous year’s Cross Cultural Center (hereinafter as CCC) Umbrella Organization Boards do not select a representative for the next academic year, the CCC Representative would be unable to attend the SPFB Transition Meetings, outlined in SPFB Guidelines, Student Programming Funding Board, Subsection E (Transitions) [1], and
Whereas, this requirement makes logistical difficulties and causes unnecessary stress for the CCC Umbrella Organization Boards of the new academic year to properly recruit a representative for the CCC during the start of the new year by Week 5 in the event that the previous year’s board fails to appoint the CCC Representative, and
Whereas, as it currently stands, if the CCC Umbrella Organization Boards are unable to agree upon and select a member to represent the CCC by Week 5 in any academic year, the CCC Representative for the Student Programming Funding Board would be vacant for the entire year in accordance with the SPFB Guidelines, and
Whereas, a vacancy on the Student Programming Funding Board would be detrimental to the operations of the SPFB, and
Whereas, the SPFB Guidelines state, “The Student Programming Funding Board has the ability to recommend changes to the Undergraduate Student Programming Funding Policy, but amendments must be enacted by a legislation passed by ASUCI Legislative Council with a two thirds majority” [1 - SPFB Guidelines, Student Programming Funding Board],
Whereas, the SPFB Commissioner, Arnold Joshua Jalos, and SPFB have recommended these changes be enacted in order to prevent these circumstances from arising in the future,
Let it be resolved that SPFB Guidelines, Section D, “The Cross Cultural Center member must be selected by the end of Week 5 of the new academic year” be removed.
